On a winter night in 1904, a devastating fire left 10,000 people homeless and destroyed much of central Ålesund. Within just three years, the entire town was rebuilt in the Art Nouveau style, resulting in one of Norway’s most distinctive and beautiful urban landscapes.

This walking tour takes you through the pedestrian streets lined with spires, turrets, and ornate facades, bringing the story of Ålesund’s remarkable reconstruction to life.

You’ll finish at Brosundet Harbor, where local fishermen still sell their catch directly from their boats—a living reminder of the maritime traditions that have shaped the town for centuries.
