Alnes Lighthouse under the Northern Lights
A woman with blonde hair views maritime-themed sketches in a wooden gallery. The artworks are framed, and the setting feels cozy and contemplative.
Two women stand on a lighthouse balcony, overlooking a serene coastal landscape. One points towards the sea, both appear relaxed and engaged.
  • See stunning ocean views from historic Alnes Lighthouse

  • Travel through subsea tunnels between the islands

  • Visit Giske and Godøy islands – ancient homes of the Vikings

  • Get a guided tour of Ålesund

Departing Ålesund by bus, we’ll travel across bridges and through subsea tunnels to the island of Giske, birthplace of the Viking chieftain Rollo—the great-great-great-grandfather of William the Conqueror. We’ll view the 12th-century Giske Church from the outside, built from white marble for one of Norway’s most influential families.

We then continue beneath the sea to the island of Godøy and the picturesque fishing village of Alnes. Built in 1876, its charming red-and-white lighthouse remains a beloved symbol of Norway’s coastal heritage. Inside, the lighthouse serves as a small museum, offering a fascinating glimpse into the past. Weather permitting, be sure to climb to the top for sweeping views of the North Atlantic. Enjoy refreshments and cake in the café or take a stroll along the nearby beach.

Our final stop brings us back to Ålesund. This compact and beautiful coastal city is famous for its Art Nouveau architecture, and your guide will point out some of its lesser-known highlights both from the bus and, for those who wish, on foot. Afterward, we’ll return to the ship.
