Onboard Hurtigruten

On board a Hurtigruten ship, life feels easy, welcoming and deeply connected to the Norwegian coast. From relaxed spaces and thoughtful design to local food and a crew who know these waters by heart, everything is shaped around comfort and closeness.
Life on board a Hurtigruten ship is calm, comfortable and distinctly Norwegian. From the moment you step on board, you’ll feel relaxed and welcome. A warm greeting from the crew, easy conversation with fellow guests, and a calm, comfortable atmosphere make our ships feel like a floating home from home.
There’s no staged entertainment or formal dress codes. Instead, the days unfold naturally – with fascinating talks from our Expedition Team, peaceful spaces to read or reflect, and ever-changing coastal views outside your window. Whether you’re in a cosy lounge, on deck, in a panoramic sauna or relaxing in your cabin or suite, Norway is always the star of the show.
You’ll travel alongside guests from around the world and a local Norwegian crew who know this coast as home. Attentive service, excellent food and spotless ships help you truly unwind, so you can focus on what matters most: experiencing Norway up close.
Meet our fleet
Many large cruise ships sail far offshore, following fixed routes that bypass the fjords and small coastal communities that define Norway. Hurtigruten is different.
Our small, purpose-built ships sail close to the coastline – sometimes just metres from towering cliffs – and dock in quiet villages and working ports. This allows you to stay connected to the landscapes, the people and everyday life of the Norwegian coast. You can even follow your journey in real time with our ship locator maps, tracking each harbour and stretch of coast along the way.
Designed for comfort, panoramic views and peaceful travel, our fleet offers an intimate base for exploring Norway – bringing you closer, not further away.

Our cabins and suites
Sailing with us is all about feeling warm, calm and connected to the coast. In your cabin or suite, you’ll experience the understated premium feeling Scandinavia is famous for.
From cozy outside cabins to spacious Expedition Suites with panoramic views, every space offers comfort, quiet and a true feeling of Norwegian koselig (coziness).
Think of your cabin or suite as your home from home. This is your space to sleep deeply, sit quietly and reflect peacefully on your journey so far.
Norway’s Coastal Kitchen
A voyage with us is a feast for all the senses. As the scenery outside your window changes, so does what’s on your plate – shaped by season, region and tradition.
We source ingredients from around 70 local farms, fisheries and bakeries along the coast, bringing Norway’s freshest flavors on board. From Vesterålen cod and Lofoten cheeses to craft beer from Bergen, every dish tells a story of place – a true taste of Norway.
Your hosts along the coast
Many of the crew and Expedition Team members you’ll meet on board come from the very coastal communities we visit. For many, working on Hurtigruten has been a lifelong ambition, shaped by growing up along this coast.
They’ll welcome you as an honored guest, sharing the hidden fjords they love, the stories of everyday coastal life, and the natural wonders that have inspired generations. From skilled captains who have known these waters since childhood to chefs raised on the flavors of Norway, this coast flows through everything they do.
Their knowledge, warmth and pride in their homeland are what make a Hurtigruten voyage feel so personal – and why travelers have trusted us since 1893.

Open Villages
Our Open Village experiences invite you into the heart of three small coastal communities in Norway. These are not tourist attractions – they’re real, working villages that open their doors to share traditions, stories and insights into their everyday life.
Exclusively available on our Signature routes, each visit is co-created with the community and included in your journey at no extra cost. And because our smaller ships are the only cruise vessels able to reach these remote villages in summer, you’ll gain access to places that larger ships simply can’t reach.
