Enjoy a sightseeing tour of Ålesund, with its unique Art Nouveau architecture

How it works

Departing Ålesund by bus, you’ll cross bridges and travel through subsea tunnels to the island of Giske, the birthplace of Viking chieftain Rollo—great-great-great-grandfather of William the Conqueror. Here, you’ll view the 12th-century Giske Church (exterior visit), built from white marble for one of Norway’s most powerful noble families.

From Giske, you’ll continue beneath the sea to the island of Godøy and the picturesque fishing village of Alnes. Its iconic red-and-white lighthouse, built in 1876, is a treasured symbol of Norwegian coastal heritage. Inside, it feels like stepping back in time, as the lighthouse also serves as a small museum. If weather permits, you can climb to the top for sweeping coastal views. You’ll also have time to enjoy refreshments and cake at the café or take a walk along the nearby beach.

The final part of the tour brings you back to Ålesund, a compact coastal town famous for its Art Nouveau architecture. Your guide will highlight lesser-known landmarks by bus and, for those who wish, on foot, before returning to your ship.
