Join the Arctic Train for an unforgettable journey through Norway’s far north along the historic Ofoten Railway.
Travel on Norway’s historic Ofoten Line to near the Swedish border
Marvel at sweeping fjord and mountain views north of the Arctic Circle.
Stop at remote stations Bjørnfjell and Katterat, steeped in Arctic wilderness.
Discover the enduring story of railway workers who shaped Narvik’s history.
Starting in Narvik, the railway winds through rugged Arctic landscapes, climbing steep mountainsides and tracing a narrow ledge high above the glistening Rombak Fjord. Built more than a century ago in some of the world’s harshest conditions, this remarkable railway is as much a story of human endurance as it is of engineering achievement.
Along the way, you’ll stop at remote stations such as Bjørnfjell, surrounded by stark mountain scenery, and Katterat, a former railway settlement now accessible only by train or on foot. These stops offer a moment to step into the stillness of the high Arctic plateau and imagine life in this isolated wilderness.
As the train continues toward the Swedish border, you’ll hear stories of the workers who built the line and learn how it shaped the history of Narvik. This is more than a train ride—it’s a journey into the soul of the North.
