While sailing into Hjørundfjord, you’ll board a tender boat that brings you ashore in the village of Urke, nestled among the scenic Sunnmøre Alps. From here, a bus takes you through Norangsdalen, one of Norway’s narrowest and most dramatic valleys.
Along the way, we’ll see Lake Lyngstølvatnet, formed when a natural landslide dammed part of the nearby Norang River and flooded the surrounding area. On calm days, you can still spot the ruins of a submerged farmstead beneath the water’s surface.
We’ll also pass through the village of Øye to see the distinctive Hotel Union Øye, where some of history’s most famous kings, queens, writers, composers, and explorers have stayed.
Our final stop is at a traditional shieling, where you’ll enjoy light refreshments while taking in the magnificent mountain scenery. The tour ends back in Urke, with time to visit the local grocery store before rejoining the ship.
