Discover the highlights of Longyearbyen on an electric bike
Scout for local birds and other wildlife
Learn more about the area’s rich industrial heritage as you pedal across its network of mining roads
The tour begins in Longyearbyen, where you’ll learn about the town’s unique history and Arctic lifestyle before a full safety briefing. You’ll then set out on your e-bike adventure.
Thanks to their electric motors, the bikes make it easier to explore Longyearbyen’s unpaved roads and Arctic terrain. You’ll first ride toward Burmaveien, home to an abandoned coal cableway, before continuing to Vestpynten. This remote area features pristine lakes that attract seasonal seabirds and waterfowl.
Even at 78° north, the Arctic environment is surprisingly rich in wildlife and vegetation, especially between late May and early August.
From there, you’ll continue into Advent Valley, where traces of Longyearbyen’s mining heritage are still visible. The roads were originally built for mining operations, and the occasional passing of heavy coal trucks offers a striking contrast to the quiet Arctic landscape.
