Sail to the top of the world during the Arctic summer and visit Svalbard’s, unique capital Longyearbyen. Explore the town - where reindeer walk the streets - as well as the nearby historic Camp Barentz.

Visit the ex-mining colony of Ny-Ålesund, the last stop before the North Pole, where international researchers live year-round sharing their beautiful surroundings with Arctic foxes and polar bears.

Stand atop the North Cape plateau, where cliffs plunge into the Arctic Ocean. Arrive by bus or ATV, or join a king crab safari under the endless northern sky.

Discover the Lofoten Islands’ wild beauty, from colourful Svolvær to postcard-perfect Reine. Join an Arctic fishing trip, breathe in crisp sea air and experience Norway’s coastal life at its purest.

Explore Ålesund’s colorful Art Nouveau streets on a walk through one of Norway’s most distinctive towns. Discover its maritime heritage, then enjoy a tasting at a local craft brewery.

No snow? No problem. In Longyearbyen, experience dog sledding on wheels through Svalbard’s Arctic scenery. Drive your own husky team or ride as a passenger, then meet the playful puppies.

Sail deep into one of Norway’s most majestic but lesser-visited fjords, which only our small ships can access. Hop off to enjoy a sauna and swim in quirky Sæbø or explore the picturesque waterside village of Urke.

In Senja, Norway’s fairytale island, go on a wildlife safari through turquoise fjords and white-sand beaches. Spot seals, Sea Eagles and Cormorants in this pristine ‘Caribbean of the North’.

Be on the lookout in Svalbard for unique birdlife such as Atlantic Puffins and Barnacle Geese, as well as Arctic foxes and the mighty polar bear.
Signature voyages embody the essence of everything we’ve learned from sailing Norway and Svalbard for generations. Unhurried and deeply meaningful, they immerse you in our most cherished places, lingering in handpicked ports where working harbors greet us as old friends and villages open their doors just for us.
On board our comfortable small ships there are no casinos or cabarets. Just expert-led talks, on-deck tastings and premium food and drink served with a story. This is what more than 130 years of sailing wisdom looks like today.
Both MS Trollfjord and MS Midnatsol sail The Svalbard Line, and your ship depends on your departure date. Life on board is both relaxed and informal. You can expect comfortable cabins, panoramic lounges with large windows, a choice of restaurants, and plenty of quiet corners to take in the views.
The Svalbard Line sails between May and September. Summer in Svalbard means the Midnight Sun, with endless daylight and more time to explore. Early summer offers migratory birdlife and melting ice, while late summer is better for spotting whales.
An average of five hours in port gives you ample time to really explore each place we stop at. You'll spend most of the day in the likes of Reine, Tromsø, Honningsvåg and Longyearbyen, with shorter calls in smaller ports such as Åndalsnes, Ny-Ålesund and Svolvær. Some visits, like Torsken on Senja, include an extended evening stay.
Norwegian, English and French are the official onboard languages. Some members of the Expedition Team, reception staff and service crew also speak German.
Most of our excursions are guided in two or three languages. Please contact the Expedition Team on board for further information.
The Svalbard Line is an all-inclusive cruise. Breakfast, lunch, an afternoon snack and dinner are included, as well as unlimited selected beers, wines, spirits and soft drinks.
During your voyage, our Expedition Team brings the Norwegian coast and Svalbard to life through daily themes, lectures and on-deck guiding. Many are local Norwegians, sharing personal stories and insights into the culture, wildlife and history along the route.
You can also join informal evening gatherings with the team, with topics ranging from fjords and birdlife to Arctic life.
Both ships have a sauna and fitness room open to all guests.
No, excursions are not included in the price of the voyage. These can be booked for an additional cost - either when you book your voyage, in the My Booking portal, or with the Expedition Team on board.
Svalbard is home to rare Arctic wildlife, such as Arctic foxes, walruses, seals, whales and a wide variety of birdlife, including puffins, guillemots and Arctic terns. Sightings are never guaranteed, but that’s part of what makes them so special.
Svalbard is also one of the few places in the world where polar bears live in the wild, but sightings on our trips are very rare.
No, Svalbard is part of Norway and does not require a special visa to visit. A valid passport or EU/Schengen travel ID is required for those travelling on The Svalbard Line. You will not be permitted to disembark the ship while it is docked in Svalbard without one.
For more information on visas and travel documents, please see our Travel to Norway page.
Yes, Wi-Fi is available throughout the ship, though coverage can be limited as we cross the Barents Sea to Svalbard. Note that in the area around Ny-Ålesund, all electronic communications are forbidden as it is an area of radio silence, meaning there will be several hours without Wi-Fi or any mobile phone connectivity.
