This extraordinary boat adventure through one of Svalbard’s largest fjords immerses you in the rich history of the archipelago while offering an unparalleled exploration of the Arctic.

Highlights

Explore the wonders of Isfjorden, Svalbard’s second-longest fjord

Learn more about the archipelago’s industrial history as you explore a handful of local mining sites

Look out for Arctic wildlife in the towering cliffs and crystal-clear waters that surround the fjord

How it works

Before departing, you’ll be provided with appropriate cold-weather clothing to ensure comfort in Arctic conditions. Once ready, you’ll set out into the fjord on a route carefully selected by your experienced guide based on the day’s weather and sea conditions.

Along the way, you’ll visit monuments that reflect the region’s history of Norwegian and Soviet mining activity. Weather and timing permitting, you may also land at Hiorthamn, a former coal mining settlement active in the early 20th century.

Between May and late July, the dramatic Diabasodden cliffs come alive with thousands of migratory birds. Keep watch during the journey—whales are occasionally spotted in the surrounding waters, adding to this authentic Svalbard fjord experience.
