Which Norwegian fjords can I visit on a Hurtigruten cruise?
Geirangerfjord
This is Norway’s “celebrity” fjord, and for good reason. As you explore, look out for its cascading waterfalls – the most famous being the Seven Sisters, the Bridal Veil and the Suitor. Channelled deep into the mainland, the fjord comes to rest in the traditional yet trendy town of Geiranger.
Hjørundfjord
This is considered by many Norwegians to be our most beautiful fjord. Hidden away, it remains mostly unknown and unvisited by the large cruise ships. In this secret paradise, you’ll be stunned by almost 12 miles (20 kilometers) of serene scenery surrounded by dense forest and overlooked by the mighty Sunnmøre Alps.
Trollfjord
This small fjord is tucked away in the Lofoten Islands, an area in northwest Norway where sea eagles roam. While it has an opening of over 300 feet (100 meters) and stretches for nearly 2 miles (3 kilometers), what it lacks in length, it makes up for in grandeur with 3,000-foot (1,100-meter) cliff walls.
Lysefjord
When it comes to dramatic landscapes, Lysefjord is one of the most awe-inspiring Norwegian fjords. It’s well known for its dramatic scenery, which includes one of Norway’s most famous natural wonders – the iconic Preikestolen (Pulpit Rock), rising nearly two thousand feet (604 meters) above the waters below.
Sognefjord
Flanked by towering mountain peaks and fed by Europe’s largest mainland glacier, the longest and deepest of our fjords effortlessly earns its nickname: King of the Fjords. The tiny village of Flåm is nestled at the fjord's innermost part, from where you can hop on the famous Flåm Railway.
Nordfjord
Situated between mainland Europe's biggest glacier and Norway's wild western cape, Nordfjord is the country's sixth-largest fjord. But don't let size fool you. This is Norway at its boldest – high peaks, deep waters and endless adventures.
