Departing Kjøllefjord by bus, you'll cross the Nordkyn Peninsula to meet a Sámi reindeer-herding family at their summer pasture—an intimate encounter with one of Europe’s oldest and most distinctive cultures.
The Sámi people have inhabited Sápmi, a vast region stretching across northern Norway, Sweden, Finland, and northwestern Russia, for thousands of years. Their traditional way of life follows the seasonal movements of their reindeer herds between inland plateaus and coastal pastures.
While the reindeer graze on the open peninsula, you’ll gather inside a lavvu, the traditional Sámi tent, and settle around the fire. As you enjoy dried reindeer meat and listen to joik—the Sámi people’s ancient and deeply personal form of song—your hosts will share stories, traditions, and insights into their remarkable culture.
The tour then continues to Mehamn, where you’ll rejoin the ship.
