Journey through 3,000 years of Viking history at Avaldsnes, discovering Norway's ancient royal heritage and maritime past.

Highlights

Take a guided tour of some of the most important Viking sites in Avaldsnes, Norway’s oldest royal seat.

Learn how Norway was united into one kingdom and see the royal estate at its heart.

How it works

Your adventure begins at St. Olav’s Church, which rises above the ancient royal estate. Step inside and feel the weight of centuries in its stone walls, stand beside the mysterious standing stone in the churchyard, and learn how this sacred site helped shape the formation of a kingdom.

Next, you’ll visit the acclaimed Nordvegen History Centre, where immersive exhibits bring to life the Viking rulers who shaped Scandinavia’s history. Myth and reality intertwine as you explore Norway’s dramatic past.

A footbridge leads you to the island of Bukkøy, where you’ll enter a reconstructed Viking farm. Costumed guides bring the Viking Age to life, revealing everyday realities—from beliefs and survival skills to family life, farming, and craftsmanship.

The tour concludes with a guided bus ride back to Kopervik, giving you time to reflect on a day filled with Viking history, storytelling, and stunning coastal scenery.
