How it works

Your tour begins the moment you step onto the pier, where you’ll meet your local guide and set off to explore the town’s key landmarks. One highlight is the remarkable Train Chapel—a decommissioned railway carriage converted into a small chapel in 2003, believed to be the first of its kind in Norway, and possibly the world.

After the walking portion, you’ll board the Romsdal Gondola—Norway’s longest and most sustainable cable car. In just five minutes, it climbs 5,510 feet (1,679 m) from fjord level to the peaks of the Romsdal Mountains, offering spectacular views throughout the ascent.

At the summit, 2,320 feet (708 m) above sea level, enjoy 360-degree views of Romsdalshorn, the dramatic Vengetind peaks, Åndalsnes town center, and the surrounding valleys. It quickly becomes clear why Åndalsnes is known as Norway’s mountaineering capital.

You’ll then take a 30-minute (1,640-foot / 500 m) guided walk across the mountaintop, learning how the harsh climate shapes daily life in this dramatic landscape.

Before descending, enjoy a locally brewed coffee and a sweet treat at Eggen Restaurant, located next to the gondola station.
