How it works
Travel to the picturesque village of Ulvik and discover why Hardanger has earned an international reputation for producing exceptional cider. Surrounded by steep mountains, fertile orchards and the tranquil waters of the fjord, this area offers the perfect conditions for cultivating fruit and preserving centuries-old farming traditions.
Accompanied by a local guide, you'll gain insight into the history, culture and everyday life of Hardanger while learning how the area's unique climate has helped shape one of Norway's most celebrated food and drink traditions.
Your first stop is Syse Gard, a family-run farm where generations have worked the land. Here, you'll enjoy a tasting of apple juice and cider accompanied by a sharing platter of local cured meats and other regional specialities. There will also be time to browse the farm shop, which offers a tempting selection of homemade products.
The experience continues with a walk through the orchard landscape to neighbouring Lekve Gard. Guests with normal mobility can join a guided route through the orchards, passing fascinating Bronze Age burial sites along the way, while others may choose the shorter road route. At Lekve Gard, the first farm to produce cider commercially in Norway, you'll enjoy apple cake alongside further tastings of cider and spirits crafted on-site.
Combining spectacular scenery, local history and authentic flavours, this excursion offers a memorable introduction to the culture and traditions of Hardanger.
