Discover the true story of how some daring Norwegians protected 50 tonnes of gold during WWII
Experience a unique blend of natural beauty and powerful history in the heart of Romsdalen
Boarding in Åndalsnes, the train travels toward Bjorli, passing some of the region’s most iconic landmarks. Look out for the towering Troll Wall, the cascading Verma Waterfall, and Kylling Bridge—the most photographed railway bridge in Norway. Sheer cliffs and emerald-green rivers line the route throughout.
This railway also carries remarkable wartime history. In April 1940, during the German invasion of Norway, the line was used to secretly transport more than 110,000 pounds (50 tonnes) of gold reserves out of Oslo in a daring operation that helped safeguard the nation’s wealth under extraordinary pressure.
At Bjorli, you’ll have time to step off the train and stretch your legs before the return journey to Åndalsnes.
