Check-in and embarkation
To ensure a smooth departure, please be prepared for boarding at least 15 minutes prior to your ship's departure time at all ports. If you are embarking in Bergen, please arrive at the terminal no later than 30 minutes before departure.
If you are travelling with a car, please arrive at the port no later than 30 minutes before the ship’s arrival.
For more information on your specific voyage, see our Arrival and Departure pages.
Times vary depending on your voyage and itinerary. Click here for information on Original sailings on the Coastal Express, and here for Signature sailings on the Svalbard Line and North Cape Line.
Our ships do not dock in Geiranger and that there is a tender service included to bring you and your luggage to the ship. Please arrive at Geiranger Fjordservice’s tender boat harbour no later than 13:45, allowing plenty of time for a smooth and unhurried boarding experience.
If boarding in Bergen, the Jekteviksterminalen (open from 11:00) has a seating area and guest lounge where complimentary drinks and snacks are provided after checking in. If you need to store luggage, there are 15 lockers of varying sizes available (card payment only).
At other ports, facilities may be limited and opening hours vary. Most of the larger ones have a waiting room (including Tromsø, Svolvær, Ålesund, Bodø and Stokmarknes), but note that they close overnight.
If boarding in Bergen, luggage handling is included. Simply drop your bags at the terminal between 13:00 and 14:30 and our staff will deliver them to your cabin, so you can explore Bergen luggage-free before getting on the ship.
At other ports, facilities are more limited. There is no luggage storage available, so you will need to bring your bags with you when boarding the ship.
Please note that the ship cannot wait for late passengers. If you miss your ship, you will need to arrange transport by yourself and at your own expense to the next port on the schedule.
Guests need to be able to carry their own luggage on and off the ship, as most ports do not have luggage handlers. The exception to this is in Bergen, where luggage can be dropped at the time of check-in and will be transferred by a crew member to the ship and later to your assigned cabin.
It is necessary to bring a valid passport. If you have booked in advance online, please also have your booking number to hand – although there is no need to print your email confirmation.
Note that we do not issue printed tickets for your voyage.
We offer public transfers that stop within walking distance of the ports in Bergen, Kirkenes, Oslo, Tromsø and Longyearbyen. These can be booked as additional add-ons when you book your voyage online, or through our Customer Service Centre after booking.
