Entry requirements and travel documents

All guests need a valid passport, issued within the last 10 years and valid for at least 3 months after your voyage ends.

Passport and visa requirements vary by nationality and route, so please check what applies to you before travelling. It’s each guest’s responsibility to make sure all travel requirements are met.

Visa requirements depend on your nationality. We recommend checking the latest guidance from the relevant Embassy, High Commission or Consulate before travelling.

No. Svalbard has a unique open-border policy, meaning no visa is required to visit, regardless of your nationality. However, if you are transiting through Norway to get to Svalbard, you may require a visa for this. For more information, visit the Governor of Svalbard's website.

There are no compulsory vaccinations or health requirements for travelling to Norway, but it is the responsibility of all passengers to check and make sure they comply with any health requirements at the time of travel.

For the most up-to-date guidance, check the Norwegian Institute for Public Health website.

Travel documents, including your itinerary and any relevant transfer vouchers, are issued via email approximately 30-45 days before departure, provided full payment has been received.

If you booked through a travel agent, your documents will be sent to them.

Please note that you will not receive any travel documents if you are a port-to-port guest.

All passengers travelling on any of our Signature voyages (The Svalbard Line, The North Cape Line, The Arctic Line, The Arctic Explorer & The Inner Fjords Explorer) must complete the Ship Manifest Information Form (SMIF) at least 60 days before departure.

The form collects essential passenger information, including passport, emergency contact and health details. This information is required for safety, security and immigration purposes and must be completed in advance. Click here to fill in the form.

No, flight tickets are not sent as part of your travel documents. You can check-in directly at the airport or online in advance. All necessary flight details (including airline and reference number) can be found on your final itinerary, which will be sent via email 30–45 days before departure.

Please note: Online check-in times vary depending on the airline. We recommend visiting your airline’s official website to check when online check-in becomes available.

Yes, but only if you are travelling on a non-EU or non-Schengen passport. The EES came into full effect in April 2026 and applies to all non-EU nationals entering Norway and other Schengen countries. EU and Schengen passport holders are not affected.

What does the change mean for me at the airport? Instead of having your passport stamped, your entry and exit will now be recorded electronically, with your details stored in a secure EU database. On your first visit, a border official will take a quick facial scan and fingerprints — this only takes a couple of minutes. There is nothing to register or apply for in advance.

Do I need to allow extra time at the airport? Yes, we recommend arriving in good time as queues at passport control may be longer than usual while the system becomes established. Once registered, your digital EES record is valid for three years, so future trips will be quicker.
