Expedition Team in Antarctica

Our experts are here to safeguard both explorers and the pristine environment. They are invaluable hosts throughout your expedition cruise.

“I am really excited to share knowledge with our guests about the unforgettable nature and beauty that we encounter in Antarctica—like whales feeding, penguins porpoising, and amazing scenery.”
- Tudor Morgan, Expedition Team Leader

Unmatched expertise

Hurtigruten Expedition Teams members are the best of the best. The Expedition Team Leader and Assistant Expedition Team Leaders are safety and sustainability experts who make sure your exploration in these remote destinations is done right.

Together with guest lecturers and scientists, they bring your expedition cruise to the next level. Their first-hand knowledge ensures safety during landings and keeps our footprint as light as possible in this pristine environment.

Leading and teaching

The Expedition Team will lead the way during your discovery of the great continent of Antarctica, both on landings and small boat (RIB) cruises, as well as on optional kayaking and camping opportunities, weather conditions permitting.

They will conduct briefings before each landing to make you aware of potential risks and the strict protocols regarding local wildlife. Lectures are held on a wide variety of specialized topics, both on and off the ship. Here are just a few examples:

  • birds and marine mammals
  • oceanography and geology
  • sea ice and glaciers
  • climate
  • exploration history and storytelling
  • photography
