Frequently Asked Questions

This cruise sails deeper into the fjords than most others, reaching their hidden inner ends. You’ll explore four of Norway’s great fjords – Sognefjord, Hardangerfjord, Lysefjord and Nordfjord – with extended time ashore in beautiful small communities.

In spring, expect blossoming apple orchards and snow-dusted peaks; in autumn, golden forests and crisp, clear air. Weather can change quickly in fjord country, so layered clothing and waterproofs are definitely recommended.

The Inner Fjords Explorer visits two of Norway’s UNESCO World Heritage sites: Bryggen Wharf in Bergen, once a centre of Hanseatic trade, and the Urnes Stave Church near Skjolden, the oldest of its kind in Norway. Both offer fascinating glimpses into Norway’s history, local craftsmanship and coastal heritage.

Bring a small daypack for shore visits, a reusable water bottle, binoculars for spotting wildlife and waterfalls, and a camera to capture the shifting light. Some travellers also enjoy keeping a travel journal – the fjords have a way of inspiring reflection – but you can always purchase one in the onboard shop if you forget.

For more information, read our full travel packing guide.

During your voyage, our Expedition Team brings the story of the Norwegian coast to life through daily themes, lectures and on-deck guiding. Many are local Norwegians who share personal stories and insights about culture, wildlife and history along the route.

Highlights include a Canon-certified photography programme to help you capture coastal scenery and the Northern Lights, as well as informal evening gatherings with the team. Topics vary by day, from maritime history and Viking legends to geology, fjords and life in small coastal communities.

MS Trollfjord also has a sauna and a fitness room for all guests to use.

From food and drink tastings to outdoor activities, we will offer a selection of seasonal excursions designed to bring you closer to Norway’s culture, nature and wildlife. Add-on excursions will be available to book soon, with options to suit all tastes and abilities.

No, excursions are not included in the price of the voyage. These can be booked for an additional cost - either when you book your voyage or with the Expedition Team on board.
