Along the way, keep an eye out for sea eagles soaring overhead, whales surfacing in the water, and seals resting along the shores.
Trollfjord is only 2.5 kilometres long, yet rises with dramatic, sheer mountainsides on both sides. Your Coastal Express ship will sail into the fjord, navigating through its 100-metre entrance before performing its iconic 180° turn inside. From aboard the smaller boat, you’ll have the perfect front-row perspective to photograph and film this impressive manoeuvre.
As we approach Trollfjord, we begin attracting the surrounding birdlife with fish. Gulls may dive for fish right from your hand, while sea eagles circle the boat a few times before swooping down to take their meal from the water. All eagle feeding takes place outside Trollfjord, and stops at the fjord’s entrance to preserve the tranquillity of this unique landscape. This gives you unforgettable opportunities to capture Northern Europe’s largest bird of prey in action.

Our guided tour will take you around Lofotpils, the only craft brewery in Lofoten, where you’ll learn all about the beer-making process, from start to finish. Travelling by bus through the attractive town of Brønnøysund, we’ll head to the foot of Torghatten Mountain. With the distinctive hole that pierces its centre, it is one of the Norwegian coast’s most recognisable and iconic spots. According to local legend, the mountain was once the hat of the Troll King who used it to block an arrow aimed at a young maiden.
We’ll spend about half an hour gently ambling up the mountain’s rugged natural path to where the hole starts. Today, the route to the hole is well prepared with a solid trail and Sherpa-built stone steps, created as part of the National Tourist Routes initiative. The walk to the hole takes around 30 minutes at a relaxed pace. The hole is 35 metres high, and runs for 160 metres, ranging between 15 and 20 metres wide, big enough for one of Coastal Express ships to pass through it.
On reaching the hole, we're rewarded with a fantastic panorama of the Helgeland coast below. Taking the same route back down the mountain, we'll end our hike with a warming drink and tasty snack.

Coming ashore at Gardsøy, we’ll visit the Vega World Heritage Centre which highlights the outstanding 1500-year-old tradition that is unique to the area. Alongside your Hurtigruten cruise, you’ll stay in 4-star hotels and glass-roofed cabins, travel by train and coach, and join guided experiences such as city tours and wildlife safaris.
It’s a complete Nordic adventure - not just a cruise.
Yes. Your English-speaking Tour Manager will be with you every step of the way. They’ll also be on board during your voyage to help with logistics, group coordination, and excursions.
Groups are usually around 20–30 guests. It’s small enough for a relaxed, personal experience, with time to get to know your Tour Manager and fellow travellers.
On board, you’ll sail with other guests on one of our Hurtigruten ships, which can accommodate up to 500 passengers.
The cruise portion of the tour is full board, with daily breakfast, lunch and dinner served in the ship's main restaurant.
On land, you’ll enjoy daily breakfast at your hotel, plus a selection of lunches and dinners - though most meals are at your own expense. Drinks are not included unless otherwise stated.
You’ll stay in 4-star standard hotels and lodges, plus a cabin of your choice on board your Hurtigruten ship. A highlight is a night in a glass igloo, where you will hopefully be able to watch the Northern Lights dance in the sky above from the comfort of your bed.
Flights and airport transfers are not included in the tour price. You’ll need to arrange your own travel to/from Oslo and Helsinki. Once the tour begins, all transfers listed in the itinerary are included.
A range of authentic Nordic experiences are included. You’ll visit a reindeer farm and husky kennel, enjoy a sled or cart ride (weather permitting), and embark on guided city tours in Oslo, Bergen, and Helsinki. You’ll also experience the famous Norway in a Nutshell journey with the Flåm Railway and Nærøyfjord cruise, and visit the Siida Museum in Finnish Lapland.
Optional shore excursions during your Hurtigruten cruise can be booked at an additional cost.
Unfortunately, this tour is not recommended for guests who use a wheelchair or have limited mobility. Many winter activities require short walks on snowy or icy paths that can be challenging even for those with full mobility. Guests who can manage short walks and climb a few stairs should be able to join most activities comfortably.
However, if a wheelchair is required, we would not recommend this particular tour.
