The Norwegian coast has been our home for more than 130 years, and so we’ve had a front row seat when it comes to seeing the urgency of protecting it.

We’re excited to share our 2025 performance in our ESG report. No, we are not claiming perfection, but we continue to make substantial progress with each passing year, and we’re proud to be on the right track.

Our 2025 achievements: at a glance

Green upgrade programme finished

Hurtigruten completed a multi-year green upgrade programme supporting decarbonisation and long-term value creation, representing a total investment of approximately EUR 150 million spent on fleet modernisation.

Biodiesel sailing – a first

One ship from our fleet accomplished our first climate-neutral voyage in 2025. MS Richard With sailed a 5,000 km roundtrip on the Coastal Express route using 100% advanced biofuel (HVO100), which is produced from waste and residual materials. The voyage achieved a reduction of 450–500 tonnes of CO₂ emissions compared to a traditional sailing.

Four hybrid-powered ships

MS Nordlys was upgraded to hybrid propulsion. The fleet now includes four hybrid-powered vessels, these being: MS Richard With, MS Kong Harald, MS Nordlys and MS Finnmarken.

Waste minimisation

Food waste per passenger decreased by 6% compared with 2024, reaching 66 grams per guest in 2025.

Strong female representation

49% of senior leadership roles are now held by women, with 18% female officers in 2025.

Local passengers and cargo

In 2025, 124,033 local passengers travelled with us, and more than 48,500 tonnes of cargo were transported along the Norwegian coast.
