  • Stroll through Ålesund’s colourful streets and find out why the architecture here is so striking

  • Explore Brosundet harbour, where fishermen still sell their catch directly from their boats

  • Taste a selection of beer in a small, local brewery

This walking tour takes you close to the spires, turrets and ornamental facades that line Ålesund’s streets, bringing the story of its remarkable reconstruction to life.

On a winter's night in 1904, a devastating fire left 10,000 people homeless and razed the centre of Ålesund to the ground. Within three years, the entire town had been rebuilt in the Art Nouveau style – and the result is one of Norway's most distinctive and beautiful urban landscapes.

You'll also visit Brosundet harbour, where fishermen still sell their catch directly from their boats – a living reminder of the maritime traditions that have shaped this town for centuries.

The tour ends at a local brewery with a tasting selection of beers brewed in the region – showcasing why small, local breweries are so popular in Norway.
