Two kayakers on the River Nid in Trondheim
  • Kayak the Nid River as it meanders around Trondheim’s Old Town

  • See some of Trondheim’s main attractions from the water

  • Wave back at the locals and other visitors to the city you’ll be paddling past

  • Enjoy this active tour of Trondheim together with experienced instructors

One of the most unique ways to see the sights of Trondheim is by exploring its waterways. That’s exactly what’s on offer as part of this urban kayak tour along the river Nid which weaves its way around Trondheim’s charming Old Town. This gentle activity is great fun for families, and suitable even for those who’ve never kayaked before.

We’ll begin by the harbour, and glide past the colourful wooden buildings of the wharves before paddling into the city’s smaller channels. Here, you’ll get a chance to see some of the most famous landmarks, like Nidaros Cathedral, Kristiansten Fortress on a nearby hilltop, and the popular Marinen Park.

The river Nid is also known to be a great fishing spot. You’ll have no trouble finding trout throughout the river, and you might even come across salmon in the lower reaches. Every year, salmon is caught here weighing more than 20kgs!
