Our walking tour begins at the pier, from where our guide leads us through the enchanting streets of Ålesund. Dating back to the Viking Age, the town is renowned throughout Norway and beyond for its architecture. After a devastating fire in 1904 that brought a large portion of the town to ashes, it was rebuilt in the popular style at the time; Art Nouveau.
Strolling through the town, your guide will highlight Art Nouveau features on buildings and other points of interest, such as the picturesque fishing port of Brosundet and Apotekertorget Square. There’s also a photo opportunity at the bronze statue monument of a fisher boy, sculpted by prolific 20th-century Norwegian artist Knut Skinnarland.
