  • Stand at the feet of the ‘Men at Sea’ – four 9-metre-tall figures gazing out over the North Sea

  • Explore Denmark’s fascinating maritime history at the Fisheries and Maritime Museum

  • Watch Wadden Seals frolic as they’re fed in museum’s sealarium

Step aboard the bus for a relaxed tour of Esbjerg, finishing with a visit to the Fisheries and Maritime Museum

As you drive through town, you’ll pass one of Esbjerg’s key cultural landmarks: the Esbjerg Performing Arts Centre, created by Jan Utzon with his father, Jørn Utzon (the architect best known for the Sydney Opera House). The building’s crisp, white ceramic tiles catch the light – a detail that nods to the Utzons’ wider work.

Next, you’ll stop for photos at Esbjerg’s most iconic seaside landmark: ‘Men at Sea’ (also known as ‘Man Meets the Sea) by Danish artist Svend Wiig Hansen. The four monumental white figures sit beside Sædding Beach, keeping watch over the shipping lanes.

The tour finishes at the Fisheries and Maritime Museum – a great place to get a feel for the city, Denmark’s maritime past and the wildlife of the Wadden Sea. There’s an aquarium, changing exhibitions and open-air displays with historic ships, workshops, a Second World War bunker and a fully equipped lifesaving station. If timings allow, don’t miss the seal feeding before you board the bus back to your ship.

Excursion is subject to a minimum number of participants.
