Norway cruises in 2028
Fjords, waterfalls, Northern Lights and Midnight Sun: plan your ultimate Norwegian cruise in 2028 with Hurtigruten.

World-famous fjords. Crisp Arctic air. The glow of the Northern Lights, or the endless daylight of the Midnight Sun. Whatever draws you north, Norway delivers unforgettable moments in every season.
If you’re looking for 2028 holiday inspiration, there are few better places than Norway for once-in-a-lifetime experiences. There are the classic (but no less incredible) bucket-list moments, like chasing the aurora or seeing whales in the wild, as well as new surprises: hiking to glaciers, kayaking around islets and skerries, or fishing for skrei (Norwegian Arctic cod). Even a Norway cruise itself earns you a claim to fame – you'll have sailed along the second-longest coastline in the world.
From snow-dusted Arctic cities to the postcard-perfect Western Fjords, frozen landscapes to orchards in bloom, every Hurtigruten voyage shows you our home in a different light. Choose short sailings or longer adventures, with departures from Oslo, Bergen, Tromsø and more, all on our small ships designed for these waters.
Why sail on a Norwegian cruise in 2028?

Two new ways to cruise Norway
The beginning of 2028 marks the launch of two new voyages for Hurtigruten. Discover Norway’s far north on the 8-day Arctic Circle Explorer, a circular route sailing from Tromsø to Lofoten, Alta and the North Cape, chasing the Northern Lights every night.
Or set sail on a far-reaching adventure on our Arctic Line voyage. For the first time ever, we are sailing to and from Copenhagen, the Danish capital known for its historic wharf, cosy cafés and world-class dining. Choose from a 12-day northbound voyage or an 11-day southbound voyage.
These new routes join The Inner Fjords Explorer as part of our Signature Limited Collection, each offering a deeper, more personal way to experience Norway. On every voyage, enjoy award-winning cuisine and unmatched comfort thanks to the all-inclusive Signature experience.

Nordland is 2028’s European Region of Gastronomy
Where else can you sample bidos (Sámi reindeer stew), forage for rare cloudberries, and try skrei dried under the light of the Midnight Sun? Nordland, one of our northernmost counties, showcases Arctic cuisine at its finest. So it’s no surprise the area has been named the European Region of Gastronomy for 2028.
This title will put Nordland on the world’s gastronomic stage, supporting local producers and restaurants, and promoting our rich tapestry of food culture. Expect seasonal food markets, one-off tasting menus and more in this growing foodie destination. Most of our cruise routes sail to Nordland (it’s impossible not to when sailing all of Norway’s coast) but for extended time on shore, consider the Arctic Circle Explorer, which calls at multiple ports in Nordland, including Narvik and Svolvær.

Fotografiska opens a new site in Oslo
Originally founded in Stockholm, Sweden, Fotografiska is opening its first location in the Norwegian capital in 2028. This renowned photography museum will be housed in the historic Deichmanske building, established in 1933, in Oslo’s government quarter and promises to be an exciting hub for photography, art and culture.
This new museum will join an already extensive collection in Oslo, including the National Museum, the Astrup Fearnley Museum, and the Holmenkollen Ski Museum and Tower. Spend a day discovering the city’s flourishing cultural scene before sailing north along the coast on our North Cape Line voyage.

Best places to visit in Norway in 2028

Tromsø
World-class museums, thriving Sámi culture and Arctic living: welcome to the ‘Paris of the North’, as it’s fondly known. Despite its remote location, Tromsø is well connected and hosts a lively mixture of cultural festivals, including the Tromsø International Film Festival. It’s also a hub for adventure tourism, such as skiing and dog-sledding, and Arctic research.
Two of our new Signature voyages, the Arctic Circle Explorer and the Arctic Line (southbound), begin in Tromsø with several departures in winter 2028. Owing to the city’s positioning north of the Arctic Circle and beneath the Auroral Oval, it’s one of the best places in the world to see the Northern Lights – especially from the deck of one of our ships.

Stokmarknes
The birthplace of Hurtigruten, Stokmarknes, is a must-visit destination for learning about Norway’s coastal heritage. Visit the Hurtigrutemuseet – our boldly designed museum featuring an entire ship inside its glass structure – to learn about our founder, Richard With, and the origins of the coastal route.
This port also offers beautiful scenery of the surrounding Vesterålen Archipelago, hiking and birdwatching. We call at Stokmarknes on our new Arctic Circle Explorer cruise in winter, the Svalbard Line in summer and year-round on the Coastal Express.

Honningsvåg
Gateway to the top of Europe, Honningsvåg is the port of call for visiting the legendary North Cape – where you can stand at the most northerly point in mainland Europe, marked by a globe sculpture on the sea cliffs. Back in town, wander the colourful harbour, explore the windswept landscapes of the Magerøya island, and look out for sea birds and whales along the coast.
Choose from the North Cape Line, the Arctic Line (northbound and southbound) and the Arctic Circle Explorer for voyages to Honningsvåg in winter, as well as year-round sailings on The Coastal Express.
Why travel on a Hurtigruten cruise in 2028?
Authentically Norwegian
Norway is our home. Nothing gives us greater joy than showing its beauty and culture to the world. The Norway we bring you to is the Norway we know and love – unfiltered and authentic, by the people who know it best.
Small-ship cruising
We take you closer to the beauty of the coast. Our ships are small and nimble enough to stop at tiny ports and sail into narrow fjords. And with fewer than 500 guests on board, it's easy to find a peaceful spot to soak up the scenery.
Trusted since 1893
Over 130 years of knowledge, experience and reliability. We are the original Norwegian voyage, sailing the coast every year, every season, through sun, snow and storms. You can trust in our experience to take care of you every step of the way.
Guides who know
Our onboard experts don’t just teach. They share Norse legends, Viking stories and insights from local communities where Hurtigruten has been a lifeline for more than 130 years. They bring Norway to life.
Year-round sailings
From snow-dusted peaks in winter to lush green valleys in summer, Norway offers different charms throughout the year. We sail its waters every day, no matter the season, making every Hurtigruten cruise unique.
Norway’s Coastal Kitchen
On a voyage with us you won’t just see the Norwegian coast – you’ll taste it too. As we sail its length, we pick from its pantry, sourcing the finest homegrown produce from the fjords and ports we visit.
Norway cruises in 2027
Prefer to travel to Norway sooner? 2027 brings two new museum openings in Norway, one exploring Viking history and the other whales. It also marks the end of the Solar Maximum period, where Northern Lights viewing is improved.
