Enjoy time to step off the train in the mountain village of Bjorli
Board the Rauma Railway in Åndalsnes for a scenic round trip through the dramatic Romsdalen Valley. Recognised by Lonely Planet as one of Europe’s most scenic rail journeys, this route offers sweeping views of towering mountain cliffs, cascading waterfalls, emerald-green rivers, and some of Norway’s most iconic railway landmarks.
As the train travels toward Bjorli, look out for the mighty Troll Wall, the cascading Verma Waterfall, and Kylling Bridge, Norway’s most-photographed railway bridge. The journey blends natural beauty with powerful history: in April 1940, during the German invasion of Norway, this railway helped transport more than 50 tonnes of Norwegian gold reserves away from Oslo in a daring operation to protect the nation’s wealth.
At Bjorli, you’ll have time to step off the train, stretch your legs, and take in the mountain setting before returning to Åndalsnes.
