Follow in the path of Viking ships on this exhilerating RIB adventure.
Immerse yourself in Norway’s maritime heritage, from the Vikings to the golden days of herring fishing to today’s oil industry
Whizz between the islands in a RIB (rigid inflatable boat) as your captain points out landmarks and tells local stories
Take a guided tour of some of the most important Viking sites in Avaldsnes, Norway’s oldest royal seat
You’ll meet your guide in Kopervik, from where it is a 5-minute walk to the RIB. After a safety briefing, you’ll board the RIB and speed along Karmsundet – the narrow strait that gave Norway its name. Once known as Nordvegen – "the way to the north” – these waters were controlled by Viking kings for more than 3,000 years, making this one of the most historically significant stretches of coastline in the country.
You’ll step ashore at the Viking Farm for a guided tour of a rebuilt Viking house known as the Longhouse. Sitting by the fire, you’ll enjoy an authentic Viking snack and hear the enthralling story of how Avaldsnes became Norway’s oldest royal seat. Enter the world of Viking kings, sagas, poems and a magic that was once as real to people as the physical world is to us today.
As you speed back to the ship, you’ll be able to imagine the strait as the Vikings would have seen it!
