About this excursion

Experience the Rauma Railway through the spectacular Romsdalen Valley, a route named Europe’s most scenic train journey by Lonely Planet. From Åndalsnes, travel through a landscape of vertical mountain walls, cascading waterfalls, emerald rivers, and iconic Norwegian landmarks, including Troll Wall, Europe’s highest perpendicular mountain wall, and Kylling Bridge, Norway’s most-photographed railway bridge.

Along the way, your guide shares local stories of ancient trolls, rockfalls, waterfalls, and the dramatic wartime operation that used this railway to help move Norway’s 50-tonne gold reserve to safety in April 1940.

In summer, the group splits into two: one group travels by train while the other follows a guided bus route through similar scenery, including a photo stop at Troll Wall. Both groups meet in the mountain village of Bjorli for a short break before switching, so everyone experiences the Rauma Railway and the scenic road journey back to Åndalsnes.
