Both MS Finnmarken and MS Midnatsol sail this route, and your ship depends on your departure date. Life on board both is relaxed and informal. You can expect comfortable cabins, panoramic lounges with large windows, a choice of restaurants, and plenty of quiet corners to take in the views.

Both routes sail between Hamburg and Norway’s North Cape region, but the experience differs depending on the season.

  • Summer (May–September): Longer days and the Midnight Sun mean more time in port and opportunities to enjoy Norway’s fjords and islands in full daylight. The summer itinerary includes scenic cruising through the Lysefjord and the inner coastal route, plus visits to the Lofoten Island, Træna and Sæbø. An ideal choice if you want endless light, green landscapes and birdlife. 

  • Winter (September–April): Shorter days bring long nights, with a good chance to see the Northern Lights. The winter itinerary includes extended stays in Tromsø, Honningsvåg and Alta, with scenic cruising along the inner coastal route and stops at Åndalsnes and Narvik. Choose this voyage if you want Arctic winter landscapes, cultural experiences, and our Northern Lights Promise.

Yes, The North Cape Line is an all-inclusive cruise. Breakfast, lunch, an afternoon snack and dinner are included, as well as unlimited selected beers, wines, spirits and soft drinks.

The working language on board MS Finnmarken is exclusively German, but some members of the Expedition Team and staff in the restaurant, spa and reception will also speak English. Announcements and written information are given in German only.

Most of our excursions are guided in two or three languages. Please contact the Expedition Team on board for further information.

During your voyage, our Expedition Team brings the story of the Norwegian coast to life through daily themes, lectures and on-deck guiding. Many are local Norwegians who share personal stories and insights about culture, wildlife and history along the route.

Highlights include a Canon-certified photography programme to help you capture coastal scenery, as well as informal evening gatherings with the team. Topics vary by day, from maritime history and Viking legends to geology, fjords and life in small coastal communities.

MS Finnmarken also has a spa, sauna, outdoor pool and two hot tubs.

No, excursions are not included in the price of the voyage. These can be booked for an additional cost - either when you book your voyage, in the My Booking portal, or with the Expedition Team on board.

Most people do not need a visa to visit Norway for 90 days or less, including those from the EU/EEA, the UK, the USA, Canada and Australia. Other nationalities should check with their local consul before travel, and allow sufficient time for processing.

All guests sailing on The North Cape Line from Hamburg are required to complete a Ship Manifest Information Form no later than eight weeks before your sailing.
