Hear a performance of traditional joik music and drink chaga tea
Get a chance to meet and feed some reindeer
Discover the world of the nomadic Sámi people as we visit a family at their Saltfjellet camp near Bodø. The Oksal family, and in particular Anne Margrethe, will show you their lifestyle and talk about their culture, history and traditions.
You’ll be invited to taste reindeer meat and sip chaga tea, as well as listen to joik – an ancient form of Sámi music and song. Chaga tea, which is made from a fungus that grows on birch trees, is revered by the Sámi as having almost magical properties when drunk around the fire in the lavvu, their traditional tents.
If anyone wishes, they can say hello to the reindeer who wander around the camp, and perhaps feed them with lichen.
