Departing Stamsund by bus, we make our first stop at Torvdalshalsen, a scenic rest point with sweeping views across the fjord. From here we continue to Kabelvåg, one of Lofoten's oldest fishing villages and the birthplace of the islands' commercial fishing industry over 1,000 years ago.
The village itself is steeped in medieval history. At its centre stands a main building dating to 1815, alongside Vågan Church (known as the Lofoten Cathedral), a striking Gothic Revival structure built in 1898 and one of Norway's largest churches.
In Kabelvåg, we'll visit Galleri Espolin, home to the largest collection of work by beloved local artist Kaare Espolin Johnson, and the nearby Lofoten Museum, which traces the region's rich fishing heritage. Our bus then takes us on to Svolvær to rejoin the ship.
