Admire Northern Europe’s best-preserved collection of wooden houses
Stroll through Stavanger's charming old town with a local guide, exploring the best-preserved collection of wooden buildings in Northern Europe. These 173 whitewashed homes date from the turn of the 18th century, set along cobbled streets on the western edge of the harbour.
Your guide brings Stavanger's industrial history to life as you walk, before pausing at the 27-metre Valberg Tower – a late 19th-century landmark that once housed the city's watchmen.
From there, you'll head to Fargegaten, the colourful pedestrianised street of pastel-hued shops and restaurants that has become one of Stavanger's most photographed corners.
The tour ends at a local café with a cup of tea or coffee and a traditional Norwegian treat – hjertevafler, the beloved heart-shaped waffle.
