Our cabins and suites: your connection to the coast
Each cabin and suite on our ships is designed with Scandinavian style and comfort in mind, creating a peaceful space to call your own as the coast drifts by.

Sailing with us is all about feeling warm, calm and connected to the coast. In your Hurtigruten cabin or suite, you’ll experience the understated premium feeling Scandinavia is famous for.
Our comfortable small ships have soul – a warmth and intimacy that makes every voyage feel deeply personal. That unique sense of Norwegian cosiness – or koselig – fills our cabins and suites. Natural materials, comforting colours and soft lighting create a homely ambience.
Think of your cabin or suite as your home from home. This is your space to sleep deeply, sit quietly and reflect peacefully on your journey so far.
Our cabin and suite types
There are four categories of suites and cabins: Expedition Suite, Arctic Superior, Polar Outside and Polar Inside. Whichever you choose, you’ll always have a comfortable space where you can relax.

Included in all cabins and suites:
En-suite bathroom
Wi-Fi

Choice of cabin or suite location (full voyages only)
Your cabin or suite choice – along with whether you’re sailing on a Signature or Original voyage – will shape your onboard experience. Suite guests enjoy the most premium experience, especially on Signature sailings. If you prefer a simpler stay, Polar Inside cabins are a great-value choice with all the essentials you need.
For full details on what’s available on your ship, such as cabin and suite categories and location, check the deck plan. You can find out more specific details about your cabin using the cabin comparison tool on your ship’s web page and when booking online.

Arctic Superior
Arctic Superior cabins offer a step up in comfort and style from our Polar cabins.

These upgraded outside cabins are typically located on the middle or upper decks, giving you better views and quieter surroundings. With more space than standard cabins, they’re ideal for travellers who value a calmer, more comfortable onboard experience.
Most feature large windows or portholes, along with thoughtful extras like tea and coffee. Whether you’re sailing for a few days or two weeks, an Arctic Superior cabin gives you room to relax and settle in.
What's included in an Arctic Superior cabin:
10 – 22 m²
Window or large porthole (most with sea views)
Double or twin beds
Chair
Tea- and coffee-making facilities
Polar Outside
Polar Outside cabins are a classic choice for guests who want natural light and a view without extra frills.

Found on various decks, they come with either a window or a small porthole. Some cabins face directly onto the walking deck or may have partially restricted views, but all offer a bright, open feel that connects you to the passing coast.
With practical layouts, including some with interconnecting doors or space for a crib, they suit couples, friends or families looking for comfort and value. A solid option if you want to see the scenery without stepping up to a higher category.
What's included in a Polar Outside cabin:
8 – 13 m²
Window or small porthole (view may vary)
Twin, double or triple layouts; some with upper berth
Chair
Polar Inside
Polar Inside cabins are our most affordable option – smart, simple and great value.

These window-free cabins are ideal if you plan to spend more time exploring the ship or coast than in your room. Compact and cosy, they offer a quiet, private space to rest between ports. Most cabins include twin or bunk beds, with some layouts featuring a bed that converts into a sofa.
If you're after a no-frills base with all the essentials, Polar Inside is a solid choice –especially for shorter voyages or budget-conscious travellers.
What's included in a Polar Inside cabin:
8 – 12 m²
Twin, single or triple layouts; some with upper berth
Chair
The suite experience
Our ships offer a range of suites, each designed to bring more comfort, more space and a more considered experience to your journey.
Suites vary by ship and voyage type. Signature and Original sailings include different service levels, amenities and dining options.
If you're considering a suite, this is the best place to compare your options.

Which cabin should I pick on Hurtigruten?
Your cabin isn’t just where you sleep. It’s your quiet space, your own corner to reflect on your adventure, and your starting point when you want to get outside quickly to see something remarkable.
Because we sail with smaller ships, you’re always close to the coast – and never far from the action. A carefully chosen cabin can be the difference between watching the Northern Lights from your bed or reaching the deck soon after the alert sounds to watch them with others.
Whether you want space, sea views or somewhere central, your cabin choice shapes how you experience the journey.
All cabins are designed for comfort and rest, but depending on how you like to travel, some may suit you better than others.

For the quietest stay
All ships make some noise as they sail and dock – it’s part of the rhythm of life on the Norwegian coast.
If you’re a light sleeper or simply value calm, choose a cabin on the upper or middle decks, away from working areas. These cabins tend to be quieter and are often close to lounges and panoramic views.
If you're prone to seasickness
Hurtigruten ships are stable and purpose-built for Norway’s coastal waters. Still, if you’re sensitive to movement, location matters. The most stable part of the ship is on a lower deck, near the centre.
Avoid cabins at the very front or back, where motion is felt more clearly, especially in open waters or winter conditions.
For the best views
If scenery is your priority, choose a cabin or suite with a window. All Arctic Superior cabins and Expedition Suites have generous windows, and some suites include a private balcony. Polar Outside cabins also have windows – though some face the walking deck.
Wherever you stay on our small ships, you’re always just steps from open decks and fresh air.
For a budget-friendly stay
Polar Inside cabins offer the best value for travellers who prioritise experiences over extras. With no windows, they’re ideal if you prefer total darkness for sleeping – especially during the summer months when the Midnight Sun glows for 24 hours.
These cosy, compact cabins have everything you need for rest and privacy, and suit those who spend most of their time out on deck or on shore.
For families
Several cabins are suitable for families, with layouts that sleep three or four using pull-down or sofa beds. Some ships also offer connecting cabins, giving families extra space while keeping everyone close.
If you need more room or want to upgrade, many of our suites also accommodate multiple guests comfortably.
MS Vesterålen: small ship, strong spirit

Built in 1983, MS Vesterålen is the oldest and smallest ship in our fleet. Naturally, she’s a favourite among many of our crew and regular guests.
Newly refurbished, MS Vesterålen keeps things simple for her 274 guests, with a pared-back, adventure-first onboard experience: no spa, no theatre, just wide windows and quiet decks made for watching the coast.
Her updated cabins and suites – including Mini Suites and compact Arctic Superior cabins – are simpler than those on our newer ships, but full of character and comfort. If you’re after a stripped-back, close-to-nature sailing with a strong expedition feel, this is the ship for you.
Cabins and suites: Frequently asked questions
Yes. For most voyages, you can choose your cabin category and number so you’ll know exactly where on the ship you’ll be. Or, if you prefer, we can choose for you. Either way, we’ll make sure you’re comfortable. Check your ship’s deck plan to find the cabin that best suits you.
Yes, there are accessible cabins for guests with wheelchairs or limited mobility available on every ship. Many of these cabins have automatic doors and are placed close to lifts and public areas. You can book accessible cabins online or with our Customer Service Centre.
Guide dogs should primarily be booked in pet cabins, but upgrades to other cabins are possible. Guide dogs can access all common areas onboard apart from the restaurants, where guests are provided with assistance when dining.
Yes. Wi-Fi is available in all cabins and public areas on our ships. The signal can vary a little as we sail through remote waters and across the Barents Sea to Svalbard, but that’s part of the charm of being at sea.
All cabins have windows except our Polar Inside cabins, which are a great option if you’re looking for a more affordable stay. Some Polar Outside or Arctic Superior cabins have windows with an obstructed or partially obstructed view. Use the cabin comparison tool during the booking process to find out exactly which ones.
Yes, some suites on our Signature ships MS Trollfjord, MS Midnatsol and MS Finnmarken have private balconies. Suites on our Original ships have large or bay windows, but no private outdoor access.
All cabins have built-in storage, including hanging space, shelves and drawers. Storage varies by cabin type, but there’s plenty of room for your essentials, and suitcases can be stowed under the bed.
You choose your cabin or suite category when you book your voyage. That part can’t be changed later.
But the journey is still yours to shape. After booking – and even once you’re aboard – you can add little touches to make your time with us feel special. Premium dining, drinks packages, welcome gifts. Simple extras that make the voyage your own.
On our Original voyages, breakfast, lunch and dinner are served each day as part of your full-board experience.
Our Signature voyages are all inclusive, with breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as an afternoon snack. For an elevated dining experience, choose to stay in a suite – where fine dining at Røst is included as part of your journey.
It depends on your voyage. On our Original voyages, filter tea and coffee is available throughout the day, but other drinks are available to purchase. Tap water is also included during lunch and dinner.
On our Signature voyages, you sail all-inclusive. That means a drinks package with a selection of soft drinks, wines, beers, spirits and mineral water available in all restaurants and our 1893 Bar. For those staying in a suite, you’ll enjoy additional perks – including a premium cocktail package and complimentary minibar refills.
