Take a trip around the beautiful town of Ålesund and admire its captivating architecture. After a fire devastated the town in 1904, it was completely rebuilt in the Art Nouveau style, which is characterized by highly ornamental decoration.

We’ll begin at the pier, where our guide will lead us on a stroll through the streets of this enchanting town. Visit the picturesque Brosundet fishing harbor and Apotekertorget Square, where a bronze statue of a young ‘fisher boy’ stands proudly.

From this attractive shopping street, stop a moment at the gallery of talented local born artist Helge Bjørnsen. Perhaps select one of his complimentary signed prints to take home with you.

Then it’s time to step in the museum and national Art Nouveau center, Jugendstilsenteret. Its eclectic collection of interiors, furniture, and other Art Nouveau–inspired objects will give you fascinating insight into the history of this unique style.

Welcome to Ålesund, one of Norway’s most beautiful towns and a showcase for Art Nouveau architecture. Before exploring the town, we'll visit Atlanterhavsparke – or Atlantic Sea Park – considered to be among Northern Europe’s largest and most unique saltwater aquariums. In a way, it’s an architectural curiosity cleverly integrated into the shoreline. Here you can enjoy close encounters with some of the marine life which lives along the Norwegian coast as well as see other species coming from further afield.   

Wander around and see the spacious pools filled with life. You can even go below and look through large underwater windows directly into the sea to spot species such as cod, saithe, halibut and more. At the time we’ll be there, be sure not to miss feeding time for the otters (2:00pm), penguins (2:30pm) and seals (3:00pm). You’ll also get a chance to try some of the local cuisine when delicious hot catfish cake is served at the café overlooking the ocean.  

Afterwards it’s time to get to know Ålesund. The town was destroyed in a fire in 1904 and subsequently rebuilt in stone, with many creative flourishes in the Art Nouveau style. We’ll take a closer look at some of these interesting buildings, and your guide will explain what life was like in Ålesund in the past, as well as in the modern day. Most of Ålesund was destroyed in 1904 when a devastating fire ravaged the town. The entire town was rebuilt in the Art Nouveau style, which was fashionable at the time. You’ll see plenty of ornate buildings dotted along the waterside as guides tell stories about the town’s history.

We’ll meet our guides in the city center, who will provide us with all the necessary gear. After receiving a safety briefing, we paddle out on the water for an unforgettable tour of the town, stopping off at several points for photo opportunities.

Discover two of the islands that lie in the sea near Ålesund, driving over soaring bridges and through subsea tunnels as we take in their picturesque beauty and hear about their Viking-linked past. 

Our first stop is the island of Giske, birthplace of the Viking chieftain Rollo. In 911 CE, Rollo invaded what came to be called Normandy, and was the great-great-great grandfather of the famed William the Conqueror. We’ll visit the 12th century Giske Church, constructed from white marble for one of Norway’s most powerful families – it’s in a peaceful village location, and we’ll get to see it from the outside, including the graveyard.  

We’ll then drive beneath the sea to the island of Godøy, and the pretty fishing village of Alnes. Here, we stop and investigate the charming red and white lighthouse, which was built in 1876 and is a cherished relic of Norwegian culture. Inside the lighthouse, it is something of a museum and you feel as if you are stepping back in time. If the weather allows us to, don’t miss the opportunity to climb the stairs inside and get a fantastic sea view from the top. Pause here for refreshments and cake in the café and take a wander on the nearby beach. 

After this, our tour brings us back to Ålesund where we’ll take a look at some of its many charms. This compact and pretty town is famed for its Art Nouveau architecture, and your guide will point out some of its lesser-known points of interest by bus and – for those who want to – on foot. After this we return to the ship.

Welcome to the original capital of Norway! Founded as early as 997, Trondheim has been marked by multiple eras. As you explore the city, you can spot colorful old wharves and a 19th-century wooden bridge with distinctive red archways in the Bakklandet district. Our guide will tell you more about the city’s history as the bus takes us through Trondheim’s streets and neighborhoods. We’ll make a short stop at the viewpoint at Utsikten to admire the city from above.

No trip to Trondheim would be complete without a visit to the impressive Nidaros Cathedral. Built over the burial place of St. Olav, the patron saint of Norway, construction of this enormous building began back in 1070. After a guided tour around the cathedral, you’ll likely understand why many describe it as the most beautiful religious building in Norway. You’ll receive your own copy of a book about the cathedral to take home as a souvenir.

Join us on a guided walk through Trondheim and learn all about this historical city. We’ll begin at the harbor, which was developed during the second half of the 19th century. Then, we will walk up to Stiftsgården, the royal residence in Trondheim. Continuing on to the market square, you won’t miss the towering statue of the city’s founder, Viking King Olaf Tryggvason.

From here, we’ll walk to Nidaros Cathedral, where you can step inside Norway’s national shrine. It’s also the world’s northernmost cathedral. Get your camera ready as we pass the old city bridge, Gamle Bybro, with its red, pointed archways. The bridge is known to the locals as ‘The Portal of Happiness’, a nickname coined in a popular waltz by 20th-century Norwegian singer and composer Kristian Oskar Hoddøø. Enjoy the view of the colorful wharves along the river Nid before we make our way back to the pier.

One of the most unique ways to see the sights of Trondheim is by exploring its waterways. That’s exactly what’s on offer as part of this urban kayak tour along the river Nid, which weaves its way around Trondheim’s charming Old Town. This gentle activity is great fun for families and suitable even for those who have never kayaked before.

We’ll begin by the harbor and glide past the colorful wooden buildings of the wharves before paddling into the city’s smaller channels. Here, you will see some of the most famous landmarks, such as Nidaros Cathedral, Kristiansten Fortress (on a nearby hilltop), and the popular Marinen Park.

The river Nid is also known to be a great fishing spot. You’ll have no trouble finding trout throughout the river—you might even come across salmon in the lower reaches. Every year, salmon here are caught that can weight more than 44 pounds!

A lot of effort has been put into make Trondheim the most bike-friendly city in Norway. The city now has more than three miles of red bike lanes running through its center. Join the bike-loving locals and embark on a relaxing bike tour of Trondheim.

We’ll start from where the ship is docked and cycle along the fjord, before crossing the new bike bridge. This bridge offers some great views of Munkholmen Island, Trondheim’s version of Alcatraz, at one point, this was a prison island, among other things. From here, we’ll cycle through the neighborhood of Ila along the river Nid, where you’ll spot the impressive Nidaros Cathedral.

Entering the vibrant Bakklandet district, we’ll stop for coffee and pastries at one of the many cozy cafés in the area. Heading back to the ship, we’ll cross both the historic and modern parts of the trendy Solsiden area, a former shipyard that has become very popular with the locals.

Today’s tour begins in the town of Bodø, just north of the Arctic Circle. With around 50,000 inhabitants, this is the second-largest town in Northern Norway. From there, we’ll continue on to Saltstraumen, passing fantastic scenery along the way.

Saltstraumen has existed for around 3,000 years and never fails to amaze its visitors. Here, water speeds reach up to 20 knots. More than 14 billion cubic feet of seawater forces its way through the 500-foot-wide strait every six hours.

After you’ve admired the strongest tidal current in the world, you’ll be given a box of salt flakes produced here. It takes 48 hours to separate the unique minerals from the water. Just like snowflakes, every salt crystal is unique, shaped by the combination of water temperature, the season, and humidity at Saltstraumen. Take the salt back home with you and enjoy this Arctic addition to your cooking.

Join us for a guided walk along the Norwegian coast and gain a deeper appreciation for the country’s dependence on the ocean. Experienced guides will take you on pathways along the shore and across sandy beaches, pointing out interesting views or wildlife species along the way. Perhaps you’ll spot an eagle flying over the sea, or even an Arctic fox foraging for food.

Many Viking graves have been discovered over the years along this coastline. They typically appear as grassy knolls, hiding history and Nordic heritage. Our guides will take you to see one of them. As you walk together, they’ll share their knowledge of Bodø’s history and of the geology of the coast.

A devotion to nature and being in harmony with it is deeply ingrained in Norwegian culture. This is encapsulated by the word ‘friluftsliv’, a Norwegian expression roughly translated as ‘outdoor life’. As you listen to the waves and feel the fresh air on your skin, you’ll no doubt gain a greater understanding of this word.

Today, we will visit the Lofotr Viking Museum, where you can see a reconstruction of the longest longhouse ever found from the Viking Age. The first longhouse was built around 500 AD. The chieftain’s home at Borg was inhabited until around 1000 AD.

The smell of tar and bonfire greets you as you step over the threshold. Flickering light from oil lamps illuminates the beautiful craftsmanship, ornamentation, and architecture of the chieftain’s home. The chieftain and his wife invite us to enjoy an authentic Viking meal. Watch as the Vikings make a sacrifice to the Old Norse gods and pray for good health, for prosperity, and for the sun to return to prevent Ragnarok, or Armageddon.

After enjoying the Viking meal, which is served with mead – the drink of the gods – you’ll be able to look around the longhouse before the tour continues by bus to Svolvær and you return to the ship.

In 2006, a local beer enthusiast repurposed an old fish-landing facility from 1937 in the center of Svolvær, turning it into the site of Lofoten’s first brewery. On today’s excursion, you’ll meet the brewery’s owner, Thorvadur, and take a tour of the building.

Our guided tour will take you around Lofotpils, the only craft brewery in Lofoten, where you’ll learn all about the beer-making process, from start to finish. You’ll also hear about the history of the brewery, and how the special conditions of Lofoten’s water made it possible to embark on this ambitious enterprise.

At the end of the tour, you’ll taste some of the beer brewed here in a beer-tasting session. All Lofotpils beer is brewed using fresh water from the Lofoten mountains. This gives the beer a fresh and unique taste, offering you the freshness and beauty of the mountains of Lofoten with every sip.

Driving your own team of huskies is an out of the ordinary experience and a must-do for anyone visiting Northern Norway. Even if outdoor winter adventures are not your thing, this tour offers you a chance to check this traditional experience off your list and take lots of photos.  

The tour departs from Tromsø harbor where you will be picked up for a scenic 50-minute transfer to our camp in Breivikeidet, with our guide explaining you a little about the city and the area. Upon arrival at our camp, situated in a picturesque valley close to the sea, you will be welcomed by our friendly staff who will guide you through the safety instructions, and show you the basics of driving the sled. 

In this tour you will get the chance to drive your own dog sled for about a kilometer where our guide stops the tour to take photos of you being a dog musher before you switch places with your passenger. Once done with photos, you will take the return trip back to camp. 

After your dog sledding ride, you’ll get the chance to strengthen your bond with your husky sled team, giving and receiving all the cuddles you can handle. Afterwards, you are invited inside where you can learn a lot more about the dogs from our knowledgeable guides over some hot drinks and cake. 

Once you wave one last goodbye to the huskies, you’ll be driven back to the city with an experience of a lifetime behind you and spectacular photos to show for it!

• Above a certain group size, we’ll split the group in half, and the first half will first take part in the dogsledding, while the second half will have hot drinks and coffee, and then the two groups switch activities.

Due to the renovation and rebuilding of Fjellheisen (the cable car in Tromsø), Fjellheisen is not suitable for wheelchair users and guests with reduced mobility at all. There is a long flight of stairs at the top of Fjellheisen and no passenger lift available at the moment.

The base for many Arctic expeditions of old, Tromsø is rich in both culture and history. As part of this excursion, you’ll get to see some of the main attractions of  the third-largest city north of the Arctic Circle.  

Your tour begins with a ride up Tromsø’s famous cable car to the top of Mount Storsteinen (420m or 1.377ft above sea level). Get your bearings as you take in the spectacular views across the city and the fjords, mountains, and islands that surround it. Explore the plateau or have a snack while you admire the view from Fjellstua restaurant.  

Next, we make our way to the magnificent Arctic Cathedral. Dominated by glass mosaic windows, the structure was inspired by Arctic nature and today stands as an icon of the Tromsø skyline.  

Our final stop is Full Steam, the world’s northernmost coastal museum, where you can take a deep dive into the region’s maritime heritage. You’ll learn more about the history, culture, and traditions of the Sea Sami, and their deep connection to the ocean and Arctic environment. You can also admire unique maritime artefacts and read stories of the sailors who braved the treacherous northern waters. Before you leave, be sure to stop by the Northern Lights exhibition to marvel at the aurora through the lens of renowned Norwegian photographers.

This walking tour focuses on the vital – and exciting – part Tromsø has played in polar expeditions since the city was founded in 1795.

We start our tour at the Polar Museum, in an 1830s warehouse on the seafront. It’s filled with compelling stories about famous trappers and the renowned Arctic expeditions of Norwegian explorers Fridtjof Nansen and Roald Amundsen.

Next, we stroll through the historic city centre, taking in the old pier, Tromsø’s oldest house, its oldest street, and Roald Amundsen’s house.

Then we visit Polaria where you can watch Arctic Bearded and Harbour Seals swimming, glimpse life in the Arctic Sea in the aquariums, and experience Arctic phenomena in the panoramic cinema.

On our way back to the pier, we stop at polar explorer Helmer Hansen’s monument, and Ølhallen, Tromsø’s oldest pub. You can choose one from a selection of complimentary beers to enjoy while soaking up the historic surroundings.

This tour is a fantastic introduction to cross-country skiing. First, our experienced skiing instructors will teach you some basic techniques, from how to get your skis on and off to how to ski across a flat area.

Once you’ve mastered these basic skills, we’ll take you skiing along flat terrain on trails suitable for your level. Enjoy the beautiful scenery as you gently glide along the top of Tromsøya Island, a short drive from the city center.

As you become more accustomed to the skis and more confident on the snow, your instructors will introduce more techniques along the route. By the end of the tour, you might even be able to navigate up and over small hills.

During the trip, we will have a stop where the guide will offer some warm juice and a piece of local pastry.

We’ll travel by bus above the 71st parallel to North Cape, which rises 1,000 feet from the ocean at the top of Europe.

Gaze in awe at this starkly beautiful scenery as you stand at continental Europe’s northernmost point. Cast your eyes over the sea toward the North Pole.

In summer, you might spot herds of grazing reindeer along the nearby clifftop plateaus. In winter, the unspoiled white plains and snow-capped mountains reflect in the soft Arctic light.

Of course we will stop for the obligatory photo (or selfie) with the iconic globe sculpture commemorating North Cape’s significance.

At the visitor center at North Cape Hall, you can watch an impressive 180° panoramic film about the region through the four seasons, learn more about the area’s long history through exhibitions in the underground tunnel, and pop into the world's northernmost chapel. Visit the small museum and a gift shop.

Experience the magnificent sights and culture of Finnmark County. Starting in Honningsvåg, we’ll journey through gorgeous scenery while our guide tells us about local history.

First, we head to the world’s northernmost fishing village, Skarsvåg, where we visit the cosy ‘Christmas and Winter House’ and meet its owner Heidi, who will give us more insight about life in the Arctic. With festive music playing and rooms sparkling with decorations, there is a range of locally produced items available to peruse. We’ll also be able to enjoy a hot drink and slice of cake here.

Next, we’ll head to the world’s fishing village of Kamøyvær. We’ll will explore this picturesque harbor, which is bustling with fishermen and a small fishing fleet. Back in Honningsvåg, you’ll also visit the quaint gallery of artist Eva Schmutterer. The exhibition displays handicrafts inspired by the surrounding landscape.

Weather permitting, we’ll stop at the Tufjord viewpoint to get a glimpse of the ‘Hornet.’ This natural rock formation is a sacred place for the Sámi people.

This awe-inspiring excursion across the Nordkyn Peninsula will be a day you’ll never forget. Experienced instructors will provide proper training before you hop on your own snowmobile and enjoy this exciting trip through spectacular scenery.

Starting from the old trading post and fishing village of Kjøllefjord, we’ll travel over the mountains to Mehamn. Discover snow-clad valleys, breathe fresh mountain air, and gaze in amazement at the stunning mountains that surround us.

Along the way, the guides will share their knowledge of the areas we see, including the Indigenous Sámi people, their reindeer herds, and what life is like in this extreme landscape.

If you’re here in winter, you may be treated to a display of the Northern Lights above, especially during the Polar Night period, when the sun doesn’t rise above the horizon. In spring, the sun returns, its light reflecting off the snow and illuminating the beauty of the mountains and valleys.

Discover the amazing story of the Sámi, an Indigenous people living in Europe's northernmost region. Renowned for herding reindeer, their distinctive duodji traditional handicrafts, and their affinity with nature, the Sámi people have a rich culture and history.

Sápmi, as the Sámi people call it, is their territory, which extends from the middle of Norway to the northwestern tip of Russia, including northern Sweden and northern Finland. Life as a Sámi reindeer herder is nomadic, following the reindeers’ instinctive migrations, from the inland plains to the coast in April and back again in September.

On this excursion, you’ll meet a family whose reindeer are at summer pasture on the Nordkyn Peninsula. While the animals graze elsewhere, we’ll gather in the lavvu tent and sit around the glowing fire. Listen to their colorful tales and joik chanting and enjoy a helping of dried reindeer meat. Here, you’ll get a real taste of Sámi life.
