Your guide will meet you at the quay in Kirkenes for a safety demonstration before you divide into pairs and set off through town on your quadbikes.
Your first stop is a viewpoint overlooking Sydvaranger iron mine, established in the early 20th century. Your guide will give a brief history of the mine, including its capture, destruction and subsequent reconstruction during and after WWII.
You’ll then head to Skafferhullet, the former Norwegian-Russian border crossing point before it closed in 1966. Here, you can take a break and enjoy a hot drink and snack, within view of a few Russian dwellings and a chapel across the border.
The return route takes you up Prestfjellet Mountain for a sweeping panorama over Kirkenes and the surrounding landscape before heading back to the ship.
