Science & Education program
Unlock your inner scientist with our onboard Science & Education program, helping you uncover more about the people, places and wildlife you discover as you sail with us.
"Dear future Citizen Scientist, welcome to the Science & Education program at Hurtigruten Expeditions!
By joining our ships, you have chosen to embark on an immersive learning experience, learning about the people, places, and wildlife across our breathtaking destinations. You will have the opportunity to support real-time research and help to collect valuable data that will contribute to the conservation and understanding of our planet.
As such, we have designed our Science & Education program to give you this once in a lifetime opportunity, and our state-of the art onboard Science Centers are the cherry on top. As you explore below, you will find information about some of the Citizen Science projects we have on board for you to get involved with, alongside the scientific partnerships and collaborations we have been proud to support.
We look forward to helping you embrace your inner scientist on board soon. "

Delivering a more rounded and hands on experience
Unlock your inner scientist with these hands-on experiences helping you to get a better understanding of the world around where we sail. From researching the impact of climate change on animal populations and sea ice, to getting a better understanding of migratory patterns of marine life. There are a range of projects to get involved with as we venture to many beautiful off-the-beaten-track locations.
The Science & Education program brings together like-minded individuals
Covering over 3/4 of the planet's surface, our oceans are vital in supporting human life on earth and are also home to over 90% of all known wildlife. Despite it influencing everything from our weather to transportation and yes, expedition cruises, very little is known about our blue planet.
This is where Hurtigruten Expeditions and our fleet of small, state-of-the-art Expedition ships come in. We can reach, explore and collect vital scientific data on some of the planet’s most remote regions. From understanding whale migrations and phytoplankton communities to cloud observations and the Northern Lights, our onboard Science & Education Teams - with the help of you, our guests - captures, analyses, and reports invaluable data to organisations and research projects around the world.
Meet the team
Tudor Morgan and Verena Meraldi bring together some of the leading Scientists and experts from around the world to join our voyages as Guest Scientists, as well as driving our sustainability and community focus in the regions we sail. Emily Baxter and Henry Evans work closely with our Expedition Teams to oversee the delivery of our onboard Science & Education program from the Citizen Science projects we support to our diverse lecture and activity programs.
They are all specialists in their fields and have held various posts within the scientific research community, using their knowledge and expertise to contribute to ongoing research projects and providing learning opportunities for our guests.
