You arrive in the Paris of the North during the morning hours, and have the whole day to explore Tromsø before you board the ship at 23.45. Visit one of the city's many cafés, go treasure hunting in retro store Smørtorget, go hiking up Tromsdalstinden or simply go for a stroll through beautiful Tromsø.
Before departure we recommend checking if there's anything exciting happening in the city on your arrival date - there are always plenty of festivals, theatre shows or concerts worth checking out.
We arrive at Harstad this morning, where you can participate in one of the classic entries in Hurtigruten’s excursion programme: A taste of Vesterålen. The Risøyrenna channel is just 7 metres deep, and was made especially for Hurtigruten in the 1920s, providing an "inside route" between Harstad and Sortland. The sand banks are visible through the clear, green water. Risøyhamn is a small village with only 200 inhabitants. We make a short stop here to deliver passengers, groceries and mail. From this port you can also join in on a spectacular whale-watching experience during wintertime.
Then we continue via Sortland to Stokmarknes, where Hurtigruten was founded more than 120 years ago. Continuing south it looks like we are sailing straight into the mountain wall, but the captain finds an opening and takes us through the narrow Raftsund. As a tribute to the fishing history in this region, our chef shows how to fillet the catch of the day on deck in winter. Now we reach the spectacular Trollfjord, only 2 km long and 100 metres wide, with majestic mountains surrounding it. If the weather and time permits it – the captain will take a detour in here. Join a sea eagle excursion to see the king of birds up close.
Reaching Svolvær, you can choose from several excursion options in summer, spring and winter. From Svolvær we continue on to Stamsund, where the majestic peaks of the huge Lofoten wall can be viewed. We leave the islands during the evening and set course for the mainland.
The crossing of the Arctic Circle at 66°33’ N is one of today's highlights. The crossing is celebrated with a tasting of Arctic traditions on deck. Another highlight is sailing past the mountain range The Seven Sisters, standing tall at 900 to 1000 meters. When seeing them, you'll quickly realize why how these "ladies" have inspired old fashioned myths.
We take a brief stop in Nesna, an idyllic old trading village, before sailing on to Sandessjøen and the Vega Archipelago, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. During the summer you can enjoy an excursion to the archipelago and experience the culture and history of the place.
In Brønnøysund you'll have the opportunity to learn more about fish farms, the environment surrounding these large fishing facilities and modern
After a lovely breakfast on board it's time to leave the ship and experience the amazing city of Trondheim. Maybe you want to take it easy and walk among the stores and cafés at Bakklandet? Or does a micro brewery beer and a burger at Sesam sound more tempting? If you like shopping, this is the place for you; from Nordre Gate in the city center to the many shopping centers around town.
To get the most out of Trondheim, we have included a night at a hotel in the package before you fly home the next day. This means it's time to experience the night life before you end your Norwegian adventure. We recommend stopping by Den Gode Nabo, BrukBar or Mikrobryggeriet before enjoying a good night's sleep.
Enjoy a nice hotel breakfast before your flight back home. Depending on your departure time and how early you like to get up, you can spend some time in Trondheim at your own leisure.
