A Most Unusual Christmas

Enjoy a truly unique Christmas Norway cruise!  Join us as we sail from Bergen to Tromsø, visiting welcoming towns and villages decked in their Christmas best, while scouting for the Northern Lights.

Bring your warmest clothing to enjoy the Arctic outdoors. This is the far north, and we hope for clear conditions, but it may also snow heavily at times.

 Arctic Circle Celebration

We start by visiting Ålesund and Trondheim, to enjoy strolling through their festive city streets. Then we sail across the Arctic Circle, celebrating Christmas morning onboard as we make our way to Lofoten.

We arrive in Reine to enjoy Christmas Eve and Christmas Day in the peace of lovely Lofoten. Enjoy strolling through the village before a delicious Norwegian Christmas dinner on the ship. We will savor fantastic food and great company and you’ll learn about Norwegian Christmas traditions.

Magical Northern Light

Next, we call on Narvik and Alta. Both towns offer a range of options for winter activities and great scenery. The Arctic light is magical, and we enjoy the brief daylight. As evening falls, we will hunt for the amazing Northern Lights on deck and onshore during this special Norway adventure.

Day 1: Bergen

Christmas Spirit

Spend some time in colorful Bergen before embarking on your cruise north. Enjoy a walk along the harbor area, fronted by wooden houses - Bryggen - dating back as far as the 1300s and visit  Mount Fløyen. Stop by Gingerbread Town, the Christmas markets, or attend one of the Christmas concerts on offer.

Day 2: Ålesund

Beautiful Art Nouveau

Full Day

Ålesund is an Art Nouveau town reconstructed in 1904 after a devastating fire. Visit the Art Nouveau Center, which traces the city´s fascinating history. If conditions allow, take a walk up the 418 steps to the top of Aksla Mountain and enjoy the winter cityscape of  Ålesund.

Day 3: Trondheim

Little Christmas Eve

Half Day

We spend the start of what Norwegians refer to as Little Christmas Eve in Trondheim. Enjoy wandering the city’s decorated streets, through Bakklandet district with its old wooden houses. You can join our optional excursion to Nidaros Cathedral. In the afternoon, we sail north to the Lofoten Islands.

Day 4: Reine

Christmas Eve in Lofoten

Half Day

We will cross the Arctic Circle before arriving in Reine, an idyllic fishing village. Traditional cottages - known as “rorbuer” - perch on stilts over the water’s edge. This is a great place to stroll before you return to the ship for an evening of traditional Norwegian Christmas celebrations.

Day 5: Svolvær

Christmas Day

Full Day

Picturesque Svolvær is a village where age-old seagoing traditions are still being practiced.  The town will be quiet, as the locals spend this day visiting family or friends, and all shops are closed.  We will make the most of the Arctic daylight, enjoying the winter scenery.

Day 6: Narvik

Second Christmas Day

Half Day

We call on the scenic town of Narvik. Shops will be closed, and the locals will be heading to the ski slopes. Join in on the winter fun or take the cable car to the summit of Fagernesfjellet, which on clear days offers impressive views of the fjord below.

Day 7: Alta

Winter Adventures

Half Day

We will spend the day in Alta, our northernmost and final call on this cruise. Alta is a small town with plenty of winter activities on offer. Join in on optional excursions to learn about Sami culture or go snowmobiling or dogsledding.

Day 8: Tromsø

End of the Cruise

Tromsø brims with culture and history in a magnificent landscape.  The city is often described as the “Paris of the North,” and boasts friendly locals, wonderful shopping and great restaurants. This is where our cruise ends. Spend some time enjoying this Arctic town after disembarkation.
