The Arctic Circle Explorer sails only in the far north, offering extended port visits, scenic winter cruising and an in-depth look at life above the Arctic Circle. Travelling at a relaxed pace means plenty of time to take in the wild beauty and to explore the region.

Warm, layered clothing, waterproof outerwear, sturdy footwear, a hat and gloves are essential. Shoe grips for snow and ice are advisable for walking outdoors, even in towns and villages. Don’t forget to bring swimwear for the onboard sauna.

Yes, the ship sails entirely within the aurora zone for much of the voyage, giving you excellent opportunities to see the Northern Lights. Though sightings can never be guaranteed, your ship’s captain will seek out the best places to view this natural phenomenon.

Yes, you can come to and from the ship while it is docked in Alta overnight. Think of it as your conveniently located floating hotel – perfect if you decide to head out to a local restaurant or bar for the evening.

Norwegian, English and French are the official onboard languages. Some members of the Expedition Team, reception staff and service crew also speak German.

During your voyage, our Expedition Team brings the story of the Norwegian coast to life through daily themes, lectures and on-deck guiding. Many are local Norwegians who share personal stories and insights about culture, wildlife and history along the route.

Highlights include a Canon-certified photography programme to help you capture coastal scenery and the Northern Lights, as well as informal evening gatherings with the team. Topics vary by day, from maritime history and Viking legends to geology, fjords and life in small coastal communities.

MS Trollfjord also has a sauna and a fitness room for all guests to use.

From food and drink tastings to outdoor activities, we will offer a selection of seasonal excursions designed to bring you closer to Norway’s culture, nature and wildlife. Add-on excursions will be available to book soon, with options to suit all tastes and abilities.

No, excursions are not included in the price of the voyage. These can be booked for an additional cost - either when you book your voyage, in the My Booking portal, or with the Expedition Team on board.
