The excursion starts at the landing stage of Niebla. Sail up the Valdivia River in a catamaran for around 10 miles until reaching the city’s pier. On the way, the catamaran passes Mancera Island, which was fortified by the Spaniards in 1645. The island is now a typical summer getaway. Then you will pass by Gran Isla del Rey, the largest island on the Valdivia River. Once you pass by Haverbeck Island, the old mansions and shipyards of the city will come into view. Upon arrival at the Schuster Pier in Valdivia, take a walk to the picturesque riverside market and its stalls with local fish, fruit, vegetables, and other regional products. Keep an eye out for the funny sea lions that hang around next to the Market while it is open, hoping for some food. You will have time to stroll around the main square, some three blocks from the pier. The modern Cathedral and its museum are in front of the square.

Walk across the bridge to the Maurice Van der Maele Historical and Anthropological Museum, housing a large collection of Mapuche artifacts and jewelry, as well as important pieces from the Spanish and German periods. The German influence permeates every corner of the city. Board your bus to return to the pier.
