Day 1: Arrive in San José
Once you arrive and check into your hotel, you'll have the rest of the day at your leisure. San José is a great place to visit—enjoy the sights, try some delicious food, visit the shops or simply relax and watch the world go by from a local café.
Day 2: Tárcoles River tour and Puntarenas
Your guide will meet you at your hotel, ready for today's jungle boat tour of the Tárcoles River. The Mid-Pacific’s richest mangrove forest, this is Costa Rica’s primary conservation area for Scarlet Macaws. Look out for their dazzling plumage among the trees. In fact, it's a fantastic bird watching spot for all kinds of Costa Rican birds—from the very rare to the most common. You might spot kingfishers, Roseate Spoonbills, Anhingas and Great Herons, as well as crocodiles lining the banks. After a delicious traditional Costa Rican casado lunch, we'll transfer you to Puntarenas to board your expedition ship. Please note that we may visit sites in a different order.
