Route 8 covers spans approximately 26 miles and stretches from the Town Square in Farsund, through the Lista landscape, and out to the beautiful Lista Lighthouse. There, you can look out over miles of sand dunes and pebble beaches. The Lista Lighthouse is a stone tower standing 112 feet tall, which was put into action for the first time on the November 10, 1836. During the Second World War, a bunker system was built around the lighthouse to protect it from Allied Forces. Follow 134 steps to the top of the lighthouse and enjoy the fantastic view of the Lista Peninsula and the sea. Adjacent to the lighthouse is the lighthouse keeper’s residence. This is now used as an art gallery, for concerts, and to host other national and international events.

During your stay, you can also visit the Lista Bird Observatory, which was founded in 1990 and operates daily migration counts in the Lista Lighthouse area. The Lista region has a wide-ranging bird population. They travel from all over the world to feed in Lista during the fall, before making their long journey to Southern Europe. The observatory’s purpose is to document changes in bird populations by monitoring bird migration over time. This observatory is a member-based organization associated with the Norwegian Ornithological Society (Birdlife International partner).
