History with a view
Walk to Fort Shirley, set in the spectacular Cabrits National Park. Enjoy vistas of the volcano Morne aux Diables, stunning Prince Rupert Bay, and the town of Portsmouth. Learn how African slave soldiers revolted and ended slavery in the British Empire. The fort is an important historical site. Built between 1770 and 1815, it was abandoned in 1854 and is currently being restored. Fort Shirley is an important historical site for Dominica. At the end of your tour, enjoy refreshments in Prince Rupert Tavern.
