Miami, the 'Magic City'
Day 1
Miami, the 'Magic City'
Start your adventure in sun-soaked Miami
With white sandy beaches, year-round sunshine and clear teal waters, Miami is the ideal launchpad for your Caribbean adventure.
The 'Magic City' is a thriving metropolis with vibrant doses of Latin American, Caribbean, Asian and European influence. Enjoy the latin beats of South Beach, elegant architecture in the Art Deco Historic District, and Cuban culture in Little Havana.
After you've soaked up the best of Miami, it's time to board your expedition ship, MS Roald Amundsen. Settle into your cabin and meet your Expedition Team, ready for your adventure to begin.
Relax at sea
Day 2–3
Relax at sea
Discover all MS Roald Amundsen has to offer
Your first two days at sea are the perfect opportunity to relax and acquaint yourself with the onboard comforts of your expedition ship.
Pamper yourself with a treatment in our spa, take part in an art workshop or join a yoga session out on deck. Dine in style in one of our three restaurants, and spend time on deck looking for marine wildlife.
The Expedition Team will also help prepare you for your tropical island adventures, with lectures on oceanography, Mayan culture, coral reefs, and much more. You can also pick up tips from our onboard photographer.
Mayan heritage of Belize
Day 4
Mayan heritage of Belize
Visit the ancient temple ruins of Belize
We'll arrive in Belize City—a lively hub of shopping areas and seaside parks, surrounded by colorful colonial architecture. For the perfect introduction to the city, the Old Belize train ride will take you through five exhibitions showcasing Belizean history and natural beauty.
Today, we visit the well-preserved Altun Ha ruins, a wealthy trading town dating back 2,000 years. It has two main plazas and 13 structures, including ancient temples. Altun Ha is also rich in wildlife. Over 200 species of birds have been spotted here as well as tapir, armadillos and the white-tailed deer.
Birds of Half Moon Caye
Day 5
Birds of Half Moon Caye
Spot marine life and rare birds on this remote atoll
A thrilling variety of sea creatures and lush cayes awaits you at Belize’s famed barrier reef. You'll have the chance to enjoy optional snorkeling excursions at the Great Blue Hole, a giant marine sinkhole surrounded by coral reef.
We anchor for the day at the uninhabited Half Moon Caye island in the Lighthouse Reef, the most remote of the atolls. The island is best known as the only nesting site in the region for the rare Red-footed Booby.
Half Moon Caye is also the country’s first marine protected area and a UNESCO World Heritage Site—home to endangered loggerhead, hawksbill, and green turtles.
Science and scenery
Day 6
Science and scenery
Relax onboard and enjoy the Caribbean sea air
Time to recharge in comfort on board the ship as you sail through the warm waters of the Caribbean. Start the day with some yoga out on deck and then join us in the Science Center.
You can take part in Citizen Science projects—an immersive way to learn more about the destinations you're visiting. Using our access to some of the most remote parts of the world, we provide the scientific community with vital data. This might be related to climate change, wildlife and other research.
After dinner, relax in the Explorer Lounge & Bar or head out on deck to do some stargazing.
The Sea of Seven Colors
Day 7
The Sea of Seven Colors
Discover the beauty of Isla de Providencia
Once a base for pirates, the real treasures of this remote Colombian island are its idyllic beaches, pristine waters and tropical wildlife. Hike to the island's highest point for incredible views. You may encounter iguanas and electric blue lizards along the way.
Hit by Hurricane Iona in 2020, the island is undergoing rebuilding works. Our visits are important in supporting local business and helping the community recover.
Discover the beautiful coral reefs in the 'Sea of Seven Colors'—the center of UNESCO’s Seaflower Biosphere Reserve - and snorkel among clownfish, turtles and manta rays.
Welcoming Big Corn Island
Day 8
Welcoming Big Corn Island
Discover the delights of this Caribbean isle
Today, we plan to introduce you to one of the Caribbean’s best-kept secrets: Big Corn Island—roughly 50 miles off the Nicaraguan coast—if the sea swell allows. Off the beaten track, the island receives relatively few visitors.
Here, you'll find a slow gentle vibe, with friendly islanders. Although the beach is the obvious draw, there's also charming street art, sleepy restaurants, and stunning bay views from Mount Pleasant Hill waiting to be discovered.
The coral reefs around both Big and Little Corn are beautiful and great to explore by kayak or paddle board.
UNESCO Marine Park
Day 9
UNESCO Marine Park
Experience paradise on Earth at Bocas Del Toro
Our cruise continues to the clear blue waters and forested isles of Bocas del Toro. Here, we'll explore a stunning archipelago made up of nine main islands and hundreds of smaller ones.
Now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this National Marine Park is one of the world’s most biologically diverse places on Earth. Possible destinations include Red Frog Beach and the tropical rainforest of Solarte Island.
You can also join optional excursions to visit a sustainable cacao farm, or snorkel in Zapatilla Caye, the remote location for hit TV show 'Survivor'.
Arrival at Colón
Day 10
Arrival at Colón
From the Caribbean to the Panama Canal
Your expedition cruise ends in Colón, the bustling Caribbean entrance to the Panama Canal.
If you're not quite ready to end your adventure, why not add on three extra nights with our Post-Program, staying at a jungle lodge nestled in the rainforest next to Chagres River.
Or add a trip to Casco Viejo, arguably the most charismatic neighborhood in Panama City. You can even book another expedition cruise that takes you through the locks of the Panama Canal and to the Pacific Ocean on the other side.
