Heinz Erbacher

Expedition Leader, MS Kong Harald

Swiss-born Heinz was a ski instructor before his passion for the outdoors led him to join MS Kong Harald as an Expedition Leader.

“I have lived in the USA, Brazil, Germany, and Spain and am fluent in seven languages. Today, my home is Giske Island, which is just off the coast of Ålesund and known as ‘Viking Island’ – hence my nickname, ‘Heinz the Viking’.”

Laura Kefel

Expedition Leader, MS Polarlys

Born in Germany and raised in Ålesund, Laura has a background in hospitality and tourism, and is fluent in several languages.

“I thrive best when working with guests on board or exploring the beautiful outdoors. In my free time, you will usually find me by the sea or in the mountains – regardless of the weather or season!”

David Lam

Expedition Leader, MS Richard With

Born in Sweden, David has spent most of his life in tourism. He studied Hotel and Tourism in both England and Germany and, prior to joining Hurtigruten in 2009, worked as a flight attendant. 

“I never get tired of my job on MS Richard With. With each voyage, there is always something new to discover!”

Having studied tourism management, German-born Anja has spent over 20 years exploring the Arctic and Antarctic as an Expedition Leader.

Having studied ecotourism in Australia, Martin joined the team on board MS Nordkapp in 2016.

“Working as an Expedition Leader is the dream job. I get to do what I love the most – sharing unique experiences with interesting people from all over the world.

As a team, we want to give our guests the ultimate Hurtigruten experience and have a genuine desire to make them happy. We go out of our way to give more than expected.”

Øyvind Hetleflåt

Assistant Expedition Leader, MS Nordlys

Norwegian-born Øyvind grew up on the island of Karmøy off the country’s southwest coast. He has always had a passion for the outdoors, having studied outdoor life as a subject at university, and is a keen climber, skier, and hiker. 

“For me, the Expedition Team has an important role to spread joy and create good memories for the guests while they are travelling with us.” ​
