Fram means ‘forward’—lifting our expectations of the cruise ahead. MS Fram was built in 2007 with one mission in mind: To bring her guests closer to nature, wildlife, and unforgettable experiences. The spacious outside decks include access to the very front of the ship, which is perfect for observing marine wildlife.

MS Fram was scheduled to be refurbished in 2020, but everything came to a halt due to COVID-19. The refurbishment is now planned for the first quarter of 2022.

MS Fram is certified with SafeGuard

This ship has passed stringent tests and is accredited by Bureau Veritas (BV), the leading independent certification body. BV’s strict and thorough safety audit ensures that every ship complies with industry and international best practices in health, safety and hygiene. Feel confident when you see the SafeGuard label, as this means your vessel met the highest standards to achieve certification. SafeGuard also entails following best practice guidelines with regard to hygiene, sanitation and limiting the spread of infectious diseases on board.

Built for polar expeditions

The ship was purpose-built as an expedition vessel with a higher ice class, chart drawing tools, a ship depth sounding database, extractable forward sounding sonar, iceberg search lights, an autonomous tracking system, an oversized oil retention system for self-sufficiency, and a full ‘expedition tools-deck’ equivalent to a car-deck that holds 25 vehicles. We believe that as an explorer, you need an ‘expedition base camp’ that is comfortable. It should combine ‘all oceans capabilities’ with safety, flexibility, and environmental friendliness. That’s MS Fram. She’s simply the best expedition ship imaginable.

Onboard facilities

The Explorer Lounge & Bar, with comfortable sitting areas at the top of the ship and large panoramic windows, gives you incredible views of nature. A pair of binoculars are incorporated for spotting wildlife and details of the ever-changing landscape.

Enjoy the finest cuisine in the restaurant on deck 4. The restaurants are located in the aft of the ship. On deck 7, you’ll find a well-equipped gym with its floor-to-ceiling ocean view, there’s no better place to exercise. On top of the ship, get warm and cozy in the sauna or sink into one of the two outdoor hot tubs. Observe icebergs floating silently past the ship as you soak.

Cabins and art

With 125 cabins on MS Fram, you’ll have a choice of comfortable cabins and a number of superior suites to choose from. Our suites are named after Norwegian polar heroes. MS Fram travels in the wake of these great explorers. We are very proud of the art commissioned for MS Fram. Local artists from the Arctic contributed to making her a modern masterpiece. The ‘tender pit’ is where we embark on our sturdy small boats (RIBs) to take you safely from ship to shore – fully dressed in suitable expedition and excursion gear, of course. The original Fram broadened our understanding of the world. Let the new MS Fram do the same for you.

    Our Expeditions Suites are the most exquisite cabins on the ship. Situated on upper decks, these are the most comfortable suites on board. Inside, you’ll find seating areas with a TV, bathrooms with a shower/toilet, most with queen beds. Some suites have more amenities than others.
