Walk through a unique outdoor museum
Welcome to Å, a small village at the end of King Olav’s Road, the main road through the Lofoten Islands.
Located at the western tip of the archipelago, Å is a unique historical attraction. Here, you’ll find one of the best preserved old fishing villages in Norway, offering a variety of opportunities to experience life in the Lofoten fisheries through the last 250 years.
While in Å, you can explore the several old buildings that make up the outdoor Norwegian Fishing Village Museum. After a brief introduction by a guide, have a stroll around Å at your leisure. See the boat house with traditional wooden boats, the old grocery store, or the home of a fisherman’s family.
You may stop by the old fish oil factory and get a taste of fish oil. For a sweeter option, in the summer season, you can treat yourself to a delicious cinnamon bun at the old stone oven bakery from 1844.
Or, simply stop and take in the views. After all, here at the end of the road, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, you are in one of the most unique places in the world.
