This tour gives you the opportunity to step onto the Way of Saint James via the ‘Portuguese Coastal Way’ and visit authentic fishing villages and archeological sites along the way. This seafront path has been important since the 15th century and serves coastal populations and those who disembark in seaports. Our hike lasts approximately 3 hours (8 miles). Along the way, enjoy marvelous views of the Atlantic and learn some local history. Located in Leça da Palmeira, you will find Piscina das Mares, a natural swimming pool created by Siza Vieira, one of the most prominent Portuguese architects, and Boa Nova lighthouse, the country’s second tallest lighthouse. Another highlight is the fishing village of Angeiras, where you will visit the local market (closed on Mondays) and Tanque de Salga Romanos, an important archeological site that was used in Roman times for salting and/or preserving different types of fish. Continue to Castro de São Paio, a small village from the Iron Age. Pause for a picnic/refreshments before driving to the pier.
