Geraldine Prince | Photographer

"How do I photograph the Northern Lights?" "How do I photograph wildlife?" Our resident photographer Geraldine has spent years travelling the world and has all the answers.

An expedition photo tells a thousand words.

Resident photographer Geraldine spent many years exploring the world onboard various cruise ships. But as the events of 2020 took place, she returned home to her native France to be closer to friends and family. As the world returned to a new normal, she wanted to return to sea but for a European company, and in December 2021 she became part of the Hurtigruten family.

Geraldine's passion for photography began in school when her headmaster taught her class how to capture and develop photographs. Since then she has used her camera as a way of communicating and lets her pictures do all the talking. Now, as part of the Expedition Team, she is sharing everything she’s learnt from school and from her travels around the world with our guests as part of our workshop series. Whether a novice or semi-pro photographer, the series covers everything from composition and manual photography, to the ideal exposure for photographing the Northern Lights.

For those who like to rise early, she can often be found on the observation deck or at the front of the ship with her camera, hoping to capture some pictures of the wildlife as we sail by.

Favourite guest story | Dolphin friendly

Geraldine was lucky enough to share the ultimate wildlife experience with a family she had taken out on a tender. With the aim of exploring the local area, they were soon approached by a pod of dolphins. Over the next few minutes, the pod spent time alongside the tender creating a magical moment for everyone.

Hidden gem | Isles of Scilly & Stornoway

Since setting sail, Geraldine has been fortunate to photograph some of the most beautiful locations around the world, many of which have since become her favourite spots. But it is the Isles of Scilly and Stornoway Lighthouse on the British Isles cruises that are her most recent discovery.

Dream destination | Norway & Svalbard

Being onboard MS Maud, Geraldine is excited to return to the beautiful Norwegian Coastline and the amazing wildlife of Svalbard. She hopes to use her camera to document the change from the vibrant colours of autumn into a winter wonderland, and onto a re-emergence in spring.
